Afternoon.

Just wondered if anyone else suffers from/has had investigations for etc really painful ovulation? Mine have been really bad for the past two cycles (out of around 11 cycles of TTC/cycle watching) - really bad stitch pains over the relevant ovary, radiating across my lower abdomen, with some rather pleasant stabbing pains up my bum at the same time. Nice. They last for a good 4 - 5 hours or so.

Dr Google is no bloody help, so just thought I'd test the water here to see if it something to ignore/keep an eye on/sprint off to the GP at the first available opportunity.

I get these.
Horrible.

Pain over overy, whole undercarriage drags and aches.
Paracetamol does the trick, but mine lasts about 12-24 hours.
Lower abdomen feels like a tooth ache (only way of describing it)

You would think, that, this would be helpful while ttc wouldnt you, but NO! 18 months ttc last time, timing the deed around these symptoms but nada.

oh well.
have you tried paracetamol or some other simple analgesic?

I always feel ov as a sort of dull ache in the ovary area accompanied by bloating that I can only describe as like constipation but different. I have hardly used hormonal contraception because it doesn't agree with me, so it is just part of a normal cycle for me.

I am now on ovulation drugs to try to help with unexplained infertility and on my current cycle had much more severe pain, including the stabbing up the bum. My gynae couldn't find anything out of the ordinary when he looked.

There is no harm getting it checked out if you are worried.

Ah thanks girls. Reassuring to know that your gynae didn't find anything dubious causing the pains Euro. Best wishes for the super-ovulation.

I'm not so worried about the pain itself ('cos I'm well 'ard, innit) it's just the cause of the pain that I'm a little more bothered about. I will keep an eye on it methinks - it has only been two cycles after all.

I have had the same for several years now. Sometimes the pain was bad enough to make me break a sweat and feel a bit nauseous. And it would last on and off for three, sometimes four days, which I could never understand. I did see a couple of doctors about it and they all assured me that it's not unusual to feel this and that it's just the lining of your fallopian tubes being over-sensitive to the ovulation hormones and it can cause them to flare up/cramp etc. I am currently pregnant and really enjoying have a break from them to be honest as it was really quite bad at times.

Ooh OP I get these too, again it's only recently (whilst ttc that I've had them!)

OMG I just realised that I put "rather pleasant stabbing pains up my bum" in the OP, rather than "unpleasant" Christ, that's not a good mistake to make!

I have bad, stabbing ovulation pains that last for a few hours, plus aches that last for a couple of days.

I think it is connected with my endometriosis.

Glad to find this thread. I have 4-5 days of intense pain on my left hand side, bloating and weight gain! Smashing. I just feel crap. Nothing I do - that I've been told to do - exercise, taking Naproxen, drinking loads of water makes any difference at all. I could cope with the pain if I didn't have the bloating and intense heaviness it is awful. Any tips for any would be wonderful. I am 43 and I have a copper coil which I am convinced makes it all a lot worse.

Your description of ovulation pain is identical to mine-never used to get them- only since I had the DDs.

Intense pain on the relevant side followed by the feeling I am sitting on a spike
In my early 30s this lasted for a few days. Now some 15 years later it has lessened to about 6 hours.

Nurofen helps.

Hi everyone...I had OV pains on/off for a week & then strange pains for upto 3 weeks .
But this month I've had dull achy pains which have since tuned in to achy/cramps pains. Bang on time as well which I should be grateful for!
I use a hot water bottle to ease the aches & pains.

I am so sure the coil must make them worse, but I don't know what else to use - too old for pill. In terms of pain relief Nurofen doesn't work for me, even Naproxen which is supposed to be drug of choice for ovarian pain ( or so the GP said) doesn't really take the edge off. I am on day 6 of intense pain and other symptoms like bloating, slight nausea. It is SOOO annoying. Send any tips, thanks Brigit, interesting it has lessened off for you. I had my children 4 and 6 years ago and before that never had ovulation pain, clearly there is no rule!
