I am currently pg with no.3 (only just found out so about 4.5 weeks). My mum and sister don't know yet and the 3 of us went away for the weekend in my car. We needed diesel and normally I get DH to do it while I am pg but obviously I had to do it myself. I was turned around so as not to inhale too many fumes and as I took the nozzle out it sprayed and went all over my hands. I went to the toilets they had there and washed my hands but could still smell it. About 2 hours later I lifted my hand up to my face and thought I could still smell it so I sniffed my cardigan and realised that it was on there.

I am so worried that damage could have been done to my baby especially as it was all over my hands, that it was on my clothes (and had soaked through to my skin on my wrist) for 2 hours, and that I sniffed in the fumes from my cardigan.

DH says that I am being stupid but I am really concerned.

You and baby will be fine. I'm sure ingesting diesel would not be the best idea, but splashing it on your hands is going to be ok I reckon.

Next time use gloves eh?

It won't do you any harm. Diesel just has a persistent smell.

How could it? What could it do? It's not corrosive.

Not sure what you think it will do? I filled up my car while pg as do many pg women? I;ve never heard of any warnings about it.

In fact DH's mum used to deliberately sniff petrol when pg with him - it was her craving. He now loves the smell of it too!

I am more bothered about it being on my hands. I know that certain things can be absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream (steroid cream etc).

You washed it off your hands.

It won't hurt your baby.

I'd worry if you'd drank it but getting it on your hands will be fine, don't worry Smile
