3yo with red stools

Sorry if this is a bit graphic!

My DD is 3yo and for the last couple of weeks I've been noticing bright redness in her stools. She only goes every couple of days or so, but has no other health problems and doesn't seem to have too much bother passing it. Initially I wondered if it was something she'd eaten as it can look like mashed strawberries mixed in, but it seems to be persisting. I spoke to the HV who suggested it was a little bit of bleeding with straining and suggested more fluids and keeping an eye on it. I'm going to take her to the GP next week as it's not going away.

Has anyone else ever come across anything like this and if so, what happened? Thanks.

Could it be beetroot?

Jelly? I always know if DD has had strawberry jelly anywhere as it makes her poo bright red.

Eaten any coloured icing, tomatoes or red peppers ?

Ah! Red jelly! That could be the culprit actually, she's developed a bit of a taste for it recently - totally forgot about that! I'll ban it for a week or two and see if it goes away, fingers crossed.

Thanks very much.

Rowntrees is the worst for staining poo.
Just don't give it for 24 hours and it should clear up!
