Hi My dd is just 3 and has suffered from bad cough for the past 18 months. After various trips to doctors he advised me on Wednesday that he thinks she may have asthma. (when ever she gets a slight cold always goes to her chest and when she coughs she is 8/10 sick with it and the cough can last anything up to 6 weeks at a time). He gave us a blue inhaler for her and wanted to see her again is 3 weeks. I spoke to him again this morning and still no better and he wants to see her again next friday and has also said that he is going to refer her to a chest specialist to chest scan/x-rays. he has also mentioned that for her height and age she should be between 14-15kilo's but is she just 12 kilo. I am getting myself all worked up and worried that there maybe something more seriously wrong with her. xx

Whatever is wrong with your DD it sounds as if your GP is taking her cough seriously and getting it investigated.
Good luck with a diagnosis so she can get the treatment she needs.

Hi emmywoo, i've just posted on a similar thread about this.

I will be taking my DS back to the doc's on Monday as he has a really terrible cough at the moment. He has been using both a blue and a brown inhaler for the last few months, it seemed to help fro a while and so we gradually stopped -as per the advice - and now following a cold the cough is back with a vengeance.

I'm sorry I have no advice but i'm glad you are getting taken seriously at least. They are probably just being very thorough given her age. Even though it is worrying at least you will be able to get some answers and get her the correct treatment.

FWIW I do think these kind of respitory problems in LO's is very common and is usually something they grow out of. My DR's surgery has a nurse dedicated to childhood asthma problems so that must show how many suspected cases they get. They are also very nervous about making definate diagnoses' from what I know, so as I said I think it is really a good thing that she is getting seen like this.

it's scary, have been there wit my dd who is now 7, and thankfully is growing out of the asthma cough.

From about one year old she coughed all night every night, till she was about 3 1/2-4. Every time she got a cold, (which was alot of the time) it went straight to her chest. We have had croup, infections, asthma, the lot.

yet, I am sonvinced that with the gp looking after you, that you will go down the routes you need to. it's very distressing i know.

There are lots of threads on mumsnet, if you have a search, about parents going thru this.

Just know you arenot alone, and tbh there are lots of bugs going round atm which seem to knock our kids out.

It will get better, in time.
