Chicken pox - how long from starting to feel unwell to spots appearing?

Roughly? dd started feeling unwell in the night, woke up with a temperature this morning and is still not right. No sign of any spots and I am keeping everything crossed that this isn't chicken pox. We're meant to be going to my best friend's wedding in Rome tomorrow, and dd is the bridesmaid. Clearly if she's pox-ridden the whole thing is off as we won't be able to get on a plane...

about 24 hours IIRC. I seem to remember my DD getting a temp on a Sat. night and the spots appearing on the Sunday night. Fingers crossed for you that its not the pox!

I really hope so. The brother of a friend of her's has it and she was there at the weekend. She said she didn't go anywhere near the brother, but obviously was still exposed. Am in a dilemma now - if it isn't pox, and is just a 24 hour bug and we don't go, I'll kick myself forever. But if we do go, and the spots develop tomorrow (our flight goes really really early) then I'm going to feel dreadful for anyone we've infected. Was hoping you'd say "oh, if she hasn't got spots by now she'll be fine..."!!!

It takes two weeks for chicken pox to incubate and then appear. So if she was exposed and DID catch it, she won't get any symptoms til next weekend...and she won't be contagious yet (if she does indeed have it...) so you may be alright! Don't quote me on that...

Rose, I hadn't thought of that. The incubation period probably is a bit short - she could have caught from somewhere else, I suppose, but if I didn't know the little boy had it, I'd never have suspected the pox. Do you think that means I can get on the plane with a clear conscience tomorrow (assuming no spots...)?
