Hello. I know it's rude to disappear for months and then only turn up when I have a problem. But MN has helped me through many tough times, so I have faith ...

DS1 (nearly 6) is constantly tired. He wants to go to bed early - he's in bed by 6 most days, and often wants to just lie around. We don't eat much meat at home so I've got him some iron multi-vitamins. I've also booked a doctor's appointment, although I have to wait 10 days to see the one I trust the most.

Any other suggestions?

Basically it is upsetting me because he is displaying exactly the behaviour and expressing the same feelings I remember having throughout my childhood until I learnt to hide them, but didn't really go away until I got on the ADs when I was 30. So I'm feeling a bit confused and screwy about it!

Well, I suppose this is stating the obvious, but he is presumably now in year 1? Year 1 is a much tougher proposition than Reception and that can easily tire out a child.

has he been ill at all? Even a cold can set a child back for weeks.

Does he eat well?

I know you say you are trying iron supplements but have you also thought about some liquid vitamins such as Minadex? It works quite well as a pick me up after illness but it might also boost your son's energy levels.

He is in Y1, and I always expect tiredness in September. But I'd also expect him to be over it by now. He is very academic so the more challenging work isn't an issue. But they are now in the "big playground" and I suppose the additional social pressures could be tiring him out as he doesn't find the social side of life so easy.

Thanks - it's good to be reassured and I'll look at Minadex.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
