bad nappy rash - brilliant treatment

hi all, just wanted to post some info in case its helpful for anyone. my baby was on the special care baby unit for a month after he was born and was prone to very bad nappy rash - maaive angry, red and broken blisters... ouch! The docs and nurses used a special paste called 'orabase', which creates a complete moisture barrier to enable healing and worked amazingly. im posting now because the tube we came home from hospital with just ran out, and i am overjoyed to find you can buy it from online pharmacies wthout prescrption. i figured there might be some people out there who need something more effective than sudocreme but dont really want steroids etc. It cleaned up my poor babys bottom within a few days, great stuff, and i think it can also be used on ulcers which shows how well it holds off the moisture! hope this is helpful to some of you out there who have little ones with sore bums!!

Glad your little one home from hospital now.

A bright yellow cream called Metanium (costs about £2.50 in Sainsbury's) was the only thing that worked for my daughter. She developed horrible red blisters when she was around 3 months old and sudocreme/bepanthen etc did nothing for her. Have never tried the cream you mention. She is 20 months and I am still using Metanium because if I stop for a few days I see the rash start to return. Roll on toilet training time!!!!

Orobase is excellent for creating a completely impermeable barrier allowing the skin to heal under it. Never heard of it for nappy rash but makes sense. It's used for people with colostomies for the same reason and stops leakages too.

sudocrem on my 19 month old but if a bad rash its got to be bepathan.

now my 7 week old both of the above do nothing. Has to be metanium.

Now after the infected thrush episode the other week we have now got the following creams in the tub its like a pharmacy.

Johnsons cream, sudocrem, bepathen, metanium, canestan, canestan HC, antibotic cream. Phew! lol

Grapefruit seed extract a natural remedy for thrush related nappy rash. Get it from health store and follow instructions on bottle which tell you how much to dilute it. Then use Metanium on top of this. That is what worked with my DD anyway. I stopped using Grapefruit seed extract after the thrush had gone and just carried on with Metanium and no rash since.
