dd is 2.4 and has had a cold last week, seemed better then yesterday had a runny nose again, this time with a cough and temperature.
This afternoon dd's eyes became really puffy, looked like she'd been in a boxing match. I took her to the GP who said it was viral bronchiolitis and that the puffiness was caused by too much coughing. tbh he looked like he was grabbing at straws and looked a bit perplexed by the swelling. He checked her mouth and tongue and there was no swelling. She's just appeared in the lounge a few minutes back and her temp was up again. Dh and I think it looks like her cheeks are now a bit swollen too, she kind of looks like she's got food stored in her cheeks.
Has anyone got any experience of this? I'm not using MN instead of medical advice I just wondered if anyone else has seen this swelling caused by coughing. I don't want to take her to the out of hours GP unless I have to as it's snowing and she is now back asleep in dh's arms.

I'm not at all knowledgeable on this but maybe NHS Direct could advise?

Hi there I'm sorry I'm asking about a post you posted in 2008! I googled "Tongue lump inside Tongue" and your old May 08 post showed up. I've had this for 2 days, a lump inside my Tongue which I can feel between my teeth or squeezing Tongue with fingers. Hurts when touched. It's pea sized too. I'm breastfeeding my second child and petrified. Please let me know what became of your lump. Sorry I'm new to mumsnet and have no idea how to private message. I'll check this thread again for your reply. Thank you :-) Tanya

ps. I'm from Australia and my daughters friend had same symptoms as your daughter. She was diagnosed with glandular fever. I would get a second opinion if I were you. Swelling from coughing doesn't make sense to me.

Never heard of that hon x if ur in doubt get a second opinion my daughter gets chesty alot and I've never had her with a swollen face due to the coughin x a doctor would be able to tell u over the phone if it's true that coughing can do that so worth ringing just to be sure the first suggestion was at least plausible x but best bet I think would be taking her back and getting a second opinion if she's worse x
thanks everyone, I hadn't considered glandular fever. today the swelling is better but the cough more chesty and she still has a temperature.

If the swelling
Continues, or if it seems worse in the morning and seems to go during the day, get gp to test urine for protein

how's your daughter doing?
I remember looking at pics of me like you describe when I was younger. My mum told me I had mumps
I hope she gets better soon and I would also ask for. Second opinion. Poor love x
she's still coughing but the swelling went down after a day or 2. One of those mysteries I guess. Am mighty glad the swelling went down as she really did look quite gruesome.
