Has anyone else seen the announcement by the NHS on this? Terrible tragedies and not a risk I ever considered as nothing was ever left in their reach because of the layout at home. But we all need to be alert to risks like this especially when we are on holiday etc and things are different or others are around who might move things...*What other hidden dangers or near misses have MNers noticed that we could all benefit from?* (Yes I am one of those Mums that wants to anticipate every danger - I'd rather ID them and plan for them than just restrict their activites even though this is often the simpler option.)

Obsessed with curtain cords, so many tragedies. Nappy sacks is a new one on me but it adds up, plastic bags are so incredibly dangerous.

Puzzle game boxes (or other toys) with cord or string as a handle.
My DS then 3, put it round his neck and decided to twist it round and round, luckily his older brother was in the same room, to tell me. It had got so tight, and although he was trying to untwist it, he was turning the wrong way. Please be careful with those type of packages.

Yeah curtain cords would be the same thing. I can't understand why they would make toy boxes with a string/ cord.

Balloons.

I am one of the least paranoid parents I know about almost everything else but ohmygod balloons.... People put them in party bags for toddlers and I always whip them away.

Children trying to blow them up can suck in air without taking the balloon out of their mouth and inhale it. Heimlich manouevre won't work as balloons will stick to inside of throat. Even when inflated I'm not even too keen on babies/toddlers playing with them tbh due to risk of eating/inhaling popped bits.

Balloons (Dsis put one in DD's party bag and it went straight in the bin)! My friend knew someone who died choking on a balloon

Whole cherry tomatoes/grapes/hotdogs.

DD is almost two so I won't worry about these when she's older - at the moment I'm paranoid.

Heard a horrible story once about a baby with a bib left on that managed to jump up and get caught on corner of cot eek!

Never thought of the balloon danger so glad I read this.

I hate balloons for these very reasons.

I know sausage a lucky escape, but a scary thought. I felt like a really bad parent at the time, we had guest round, so was. busy entertaining.
