The Odyssey/ tales of Greek mythology / Ancient Greek history for 5 year old boy please

I went to a book fair yesterday and bought a Greek Myths book by Marcia Williams for my ds. DS quite likes stories about Greek heroes but when MIL read one or two to him, she didn't seem to approve as the style was very gimmicky. MIL admitted that she was being a bit of a purist as she had studied classics in school and didn't like this child friendly adaptation.

Does anyone know any decent child friendly versions of The Odyssey or similar Ancient Greek books?

Thanks.

Atticus the Storyteller is fantastic!

There is an CD version too.

Highly recommended.

Oh thank you for the thread and the recommendations. I am just in the middle of putting together an Amazon order of fairy tales/Aesop's fables/myths for ds1's birthday, so will add Atticus the Storyteller in. It looks like it might be a bit advanced for him yet (he's giong to be 4) but maybe I can read up a bit on them and tell them myself until he's big enough.

I really like the Marcia Williams books; she gets the excitement of the stories across and the pictures are lively and appealing.

DS likes the 'comic strip' style, and he's picked up chapter books of the myths now because he recognises the characters. He also knows who the gods are and told me the Greek equivalents when we went to a Roman villa.

she has also done the Odyssey & others, as you probably know.
