Chapter books for 7 year old

Many apols if this has been done.

A good but not fantastic reader - enthusiastic at any rate - needs some ideas for chapter books.

Keen on Dr Who/fantasy usual boys stuff, but also strangely enjoys reading encyclopaedias about medicine/body particularly.

Anyway, any suggestions? Perhaps ones he can read himself and maybe ones we would need to read????

There's a fabulous book called Rebecca's World which I was read when I was about seven - it's a fantasy story about a girl who gets magicked to a fantasy land and her advertures there. Obviously for a boy it would be better if it was a boy in the story but it's great. Apparently the author, Terry Nation, was the person who created the Daleks - or so it says on the front cover of my version - so perfect for a dr who fan.

If you can, get the version with the amazing Larry Learmonth illustrations - amazing

Scholastic have a set of My Story books aimed at boys. My DD2 (also 7) is thoroughly enjoying the girls' versions at the moment - they are the supposed diaries of fictional characters from different historical eras. Fiction with a non-fiction basis really.

Not strange at all, it is well known that boys usually prefer to read non fiction. My kids read books on cars even adult books on landrovers etc and are always asking what a particular word means which is usually a part of a car so I don't know it either
I read the Hobbit (Tolkein) to them at 6 years and Swallows and Amazons series. They love Secret Seven to read themselves or Animal Ark or the Fatty mysteries by Enid Blyton (Mystery of the burnt cottage, Mystery of the secret room etc)

Captain Underpants, found in most book shops very funny short pages lots of pictures typical boy humour throughout, theres about six of them, each with great titles.

'The Last Polar Bear' books etc., by Harry Horse are really witty and lovely. I've also recently remembered the Little Wolf books by Ian Whybrow, which I sadly found incredibly amusing ! And the 'How to Train Your Dragon Books' by Cressida Cowell are fantastic.

My DS1 ploughs through Horrible Science books, which are full of gory and disgusting facts that boys love! He might like to dip into those?

Oh, and something called 'The Astrosaurs' (is that right??) are all the rage at school at the moment (there's a waiting list in the school library apparently!)

Margoandjerry thank you for reminding me about Rebecca's World - I loved it as a child, and had utterly forgotten it. Must ask my mum if she's still got it.

Hope she has Zazette. Just went on amazon and found my edition is worth about 50 quid . Seems it's out of print - madness
