36 weeks, odd pains, this is normal, right?

Hi all. I am 36 weeks +. Having odd pains all day - like period pain extending into lower back. They come and go, last 15-odd secs each time - like indigestion cross period pain. Ow. Also (TMI alert) have been leaking something (presume just the mad extra secretion I have read about?) for last few days, especially in mornings, and am seeing a bit of mucus, so presume might be losing the plug. Thank God for anonymity.

Do not feel in any way like I am in labour, though. (And also do not feel I am in denial.)

Is this normal for late pregnancy?

Do you reckon I could have a UTI?

If it were you would you call midwife now or wait a while and see?

could be braxton hicks??

have you got a nice callable midwife if so then call. Doesn't sound like a uti to me.

Is this your first?

Hiya,

It sounds like your having braxton hicks and as you said mucus plug and secretions. All sounds very positive for pushing that little baby down where it should be :-)

However...give your midwife a call or the local maternity unit at the hospital. I called for quite a few things and they are in general very happy to ask you a few questions and put your mind at rest. They're used to it.

You're quite far along now so best to play it on the safe side.

Sounds like BH to me too. The goo could indicate that they are starting to change your cervix, especially if there is a bloody tinge to it.
Hopefully you'll get to the real thing before long.
I'd probably wait and see but since you've posted here maybe you are a bit worried? In which case, call you MW/hospital. It's what they are there for.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/04/2010 18:29

If you were leaking your waters a mw would be able to tell with a simple test so keep a pad on if you're going to the hospital to get checked. They apparently smell sweet, so maybe have a sniff?

Yeah late pregnancy throws up all kinds of fun sensations and symptoms, just keep an eye on it, call the mw for reassurance if you need to, but it's likely to be just braxtons, and extra discharge. Doesn't sound like a UTI.

Thanks all. Hi James. Yes, my first, and I have not yet packed a bag or put up cot or cleaned secoind-hand pram etc etc, so this will at least spur me on.

I just called but they were just about to start a C-Sec so said I would call back. May even have a sniff!

Get a move on girl, we're considered full term in a week or two!

How are you feeling now, still having bh?

girlsyearapart · 11/04/2010 07:26

how are you this morning lucky?

LuckyC · 15/04/2010 16:54

Well, that was both denial and labour!!! Was 7.5 cms when I got to hospital!

Denial is excellent form of pain relief.

Baby Matilda is exquisite and perfect and doing well.
