After a horrendously traumatic & dangerous 1st birth of dd1 18 months ago I am now 37 wks with dc2. I'd planned a home birth this time as due to the trauma of last time I am now properly terrified of hospitals. The birthing pool just got delivered & its given me a bit of a panic attack about the fact that I have to give birth again. One question I haven't asked & seem to need to know now to reassure me is whether home birth midwives carry anti nausea medicine like in hospital ? Or do I have to add vomiting throughout labour to my potential things to feel awful about??
I was given an anti-emetic pill when i had dd1 at home. Is that what you wanted or something more hardcore?
Please remember, your body knows what it's doing this time, everything will be fine. Also, home birth is so different to hospital birth (i imagine... I had both of my dds at home). It is really relaxed. You, or your dp, are in charge, no one does anything without your sayso.
I don't know if they have the anti sickness medicine,
but it perfectly normal to feel the way you do, when waiting to give birth,
fill that pool up and have a relaxing float, anything to take the stress levels down, if you can get a couple of those swimming noodles, you can tuck them under your arms and legs and float very comfortable and read a book,
Thank you for your reassurance. Maybe I need to check with my dr whether he needs to prescribe anti-emetic for me? I've been assigned a fab incredibly experienced midwife to be permanently on call for my home birth but she's is about to have a bereavement in the family & will be taking time off for visiting the family. As such I don't want to bother her with this question or my panicking!!
Please let everyone be right & home birth be loads better than last time. Am terrified :-(
