Scar tissue from perineal tear - solutions?

Hi everyone - me again Smile.
Saw yet another gynae about my rectocele last week and he told me that the way my perineal tear has healed has left a thick band of scar tissue at the opening of my vagina. He assumes that the other gynae who referred me to him and who I believe would take responsibility for any treatment or surgery will want to operate to correct this (may well be having some surgical repair work done by this other gynae, so it could all be done at the same time). Am mightily annoyed as when the tear was healing I had ultrasound and did massage to try to break down the adhesions that were forming and keep things soft and supple. Anyway, this clearly did not work and things are getting thicker and harder, not softer and thinner. I was wondering what people's experiences of dealing with scar tissue are. Is surgery a good idea? Is there anything else that I could discuss with him at my next appointment? Thanks and hope you all have a nice bank holiday weekend. XX

Hello, no advice at all but didn't want to leave you!

Good luck with the gynae.

When I went in to speak to the surgeon before my DD had surgery (for something completely different, obv) I made sure I wrote down questions beforehand so that I got all the answers I wanted. Also I thought of a couple after the appointment and left a message for the surgeon who called me back and answered my questions, so don't feel you can't do that if you need to.

Important things for any surgery:

What will happen if I don't have the surgery?
Anaesthetic
Recovery time (in hospital and at home)
Painkillers afterwards
Potential complications
Waiting list length
Follow-up treatment

Hope that helps a bit.

card sorry you are going through this. I don't have any advice but you might want to ask the same questions of the ragged bits ladies over on general health.
Good luck with your appointment.

hello

someone mentioned a cream for breaking down scar tissue thats very hard, cant recall its name, but if you look thru that 'midwife screaming at extent of open episiotomy' thread from last summer (i think u know the one i mean :( ) it might be listed on there. I do wonder what happened to dhosonia.

it may be more complex tho if yr having surgery anyway tho, maybe that will sort it out anyway iyswim

how r u feeling?
X

Hi muslimah! Still on holiday seeing the PILs - will email when we are back next week. Yeah - I remember that thread [gives huge shudder and breaks into cold sweat] and also wonder how she's getting on. Don't remember the cream - might find the thread and have a trawl through. Although not sure I am feeling brave enough to re-read [shudders again]. Wondering about cortisone injections. Seeing gynae Wednesday next week. How you doing? XX
