What does "contracting 4:10" mean in labour notes?

Can anyone tell me what "contracting 4:10" in maternity notes written by a midwife during a woman's labour means?

Also "ventrex" or maybe "ventex" in the same notes?

I have tried googling and searching previous threads here but to no avail.

vertex means the head is the presenting part..

4: 10 means you having 4 contractions within 10 minutes

A 'vertex' position means the baby is head down.

Contracting 4:10 means you're having 4 contractions in 10 minutes iirc. So contractions spaced at 2-3mins.

Oh, brilliant, thanks for such a quick reply. Just receieved the notes from my labour (after jumping through a whole load of hoops relating to patient records, paying a fee etc etc) and trying to deciper them!

Had a very normal, straightforward labour in a midwife-led unit, just wanted to know more about it now I am expecting DC2. Really quite revealing to read the notes - I hardly remember anything from when I got to hospital as was dealing with strong contractions the whole time. In fact 4 contractions every 10 mins as it turns out!

The vertex baby in the notes now 2.7 yrs and currently sitting next to me happily eating her dinner!

I remember getting my notes. Bits of them were illegible. I'm sure they say there was a monkey and some clowns at the delivery.

How did you go about getting a copy of your notes? I would love to see mine, but I was told that I would have to make an appointment with a midwife to go through them and I really don't need that. Just want to have a look at them in private.

i was so far gone in labour i wouldn't ahve cared if tehr were monkeys and clowns there. i just wanted him OUT!!!

tutu, I contacted PALs and they gave me the contact details for the woman who dealt with hospital records. For a small charge she then posted them out to me.

i got mine recently and discovered i'm now working with various people who have felt my cervix. weird but rather nice.

Surprised that you were told you had to make an appointment with your midwife - might be worth going back and saying you are just requesting them as a subject access data request (I think that's the term - your NHS Trust website will probably have the lingo).

ShowofHands - was that the gas and air? (clowns and monkeys that is).
