Camping at eweleaze campsite

Urm I've never used this website before but you all seem Very friendly haha.. I am only 15 so I probubaly shouldn't be on a website called mums net.. Anyway me and some of my friends are going camping at ewelease campsite and i am feeling pretty stressed about it.. What should we do about food? Do they sell it there? Or should we bring some?
How safe is the campsite like if we leave Our bags will they get stolen?
Will we have to quew for showers?
Is it very buisy there?
Just what is it like in general?? Ah I've never realy done anything like this before (camping I mean) and I don't know how realistic it is that we will all actualy stay alive

Don't feel stressed! Camping is fab!

You could do with a little camping cooker so you can warm stuff up. Deffo take something to eat. I don't know that campsite but if there is a shop on site, it's likely to be expensive. Pack a few things before you go.

Campsites are generally pretty safe, but don't leave anything valuable in your tent.

I don't think you're likely to die by camping

Oh, but on that note, don't put barbecues in your tent, they give off carbon monoxide. (I know it sounds mad to put a barbecue in your tent but some people try, thinking it'll warm them up...)

Eweleaze has extensive food options. They sell stonebaked pizza, icecream and there is a well stocked camp shop but it is fairly expensive.
Take lots of snacks, things like crisps, cereal bars, fruit, drinks etc. If you are brave enough to cook for yourselves go for something very simple like pasta and a jar of sauce. Everything tastes better when you are camping anyway.

Ideally keep valuables with you but having said that I have never experienced any problems whan camping. Eweleaze is absolutely massive, you won't have any trouble finding space but you might have trouble finding flat space! Look for the flatest bit you can and if it is a bit slopy remember to pitch your tent so your head is up hill when you are sleeping.

Eweleaze has not lighting so don't forget torches and make sure you know where they are before the sun goes down!

Have you pitched your tent before? If not have a test run before you go in the garden or at a local park if you don't have a garden.

Above all, don't stress, camping is all about relaxing. You'll have a ball I'm sure (make sure keep the noise down after 10pm though there are lots of families with young children at Eweleaze and you wouldn't want your trip ruined by irate, sleep deprived parents!)

Eweleaze is great btw- as a first camp, it is an easy and safe site. Loads of families, so you'll probably get people keeping an eye on you in any case.

If you leave things in your tent, they will be fine... but I wouldn't leave valuables in there (e.g. tablets/phones/ipods etc).

I have been camping for years and never seen people entering other people's tents. I don't mean it never happens, but I've never come across it.

If you can get the headtorch type torches- they will be great for night tine loo trips- hands free will be better!

Things such as pasta are very easy to cook on a stove and not too heavy to lug there.

Yes we are all under 16 and I think my friend asked there man if we can camp without an adult but I'm not sure so I'll have to check that.. Okay thanks.. And yeah we might invest in some trendy head torches haha I'm sure we will look great :D

Oh the LED headtorches are quite teeny nowadays, light too!
Do you have a stove of some sorts? That's the biggest danger for you really, making sure nothing wafts through the flame, and catches your gear. As someone upthread said- never keep a BBQ/burner in your tent, not even the porch if it's been lit within a few hours.

Hm we have a little gas cooler thing.. Do you think this is too dangerous.. Because we could always just eat vertical and stuff instead off cooking, I think we are ony going for 2 nights

Hi Olive. Just wondering if you are all under 16, how you are planning to get to Eweleaze. Are you getting a lift or going by public transport because obv if the latter you will want to pack light. Assuming you are without a car generally you might want to head for one of the car free fields like Point Field at the end. It has great views from parts of it and direct access down to the (stony) beach. Take jellies or wetsuit shoes for the beach and sea would be my recommendation.

There are normal loos and showers around the site but the ones in the fields are compost so be prepared for that. Take loo paper in case it has run out and hand sanitiser as the water in the fields is cold.

You can have campfires at Eweleaze and they sell wood there but if you do have one, you should use a bit of the field which has already been burnt to save ruining the grass and be sure to put your fire out properly with water before you go to bed. For that purpose and just generally for water, take a large water cariver. Many camping shops and pound shops too sometimes sell folding water carriers which are ideal. If not you can just buy a big 5 litre water bottle in a supermarket and when the water is gone use that as your carrier.

I would definitely stock up on basic food and drink before you arrive as the site shop is pricey. Maybe between you get two or three one ring suitcase type cookers from Argos or Halford or a camping shop as you can cook pasta/rice and different sauces then, eg. Pesto, bolognese etc and all eat together.

Bring some plastic plates and cups from home if you can.

You will love Eweleaze and camping, so have a great time. When are you going? We will be there the first weekend of August.

Oh and a cool bag/box if one of you has one with some ice packs which you can refreeze on site I think, might be useful for keeping milk, cold drinks and food cold.

Also a picnic rug if you are not taking a table and chairs.

We are all going in cars so that won't be a problem

Is a water carrier just like a bucket?
And we are going the 13-14-15 of august so I don't think we will be there at the same time

You could use a bucket for water but a carrier is basically like a plastic demijohn (like you would make beer in). It generally has a tap on it to make pouring easier. Any large plastic container with a cap would be fine though. Compost loos are just a wooden outhouse with a loo seat on a bench under which there is a big hole filled with wood clippings basically. It is a long way below you though. You do your business in there and chuck down some wood clippings after you instead of flushing. It doesn't really smell or shouldn't and the Eweleaze ones are changed fairly regularly so fine really. I just mentioned it because some people don't like them.

And oh dear they sound not very nice but oh well we will have to deal with it.. That's what camping is about right? Haha
