We've just booked 2 weeks in France for our summer hols. We were getting quotes of £866 to £1,100 for ferry crossings (yes, I know August is peak season, but still!) which nearly made me say forget it.
But then the superb Carefree operative suddenly suggested travelling on Sunday with Condor from Portsmouth to Cherbourg - the caravan goes free!! The ferry crossing (via the Camping and Caravan Club) was only £250 return!! So even including 2 weeks full service camping site it's still a lot less than the eye-watering £866 ferry cost initially quoted.
Just thought I would post as always great to save some money, and this is a substantial saving :-)
Feeling very smug now :-)
That is certainly a good deal you've got there, well done
- lots of people on ukcamping seem to use DFDS with their caravans so it might be worth checking them out next year.
Where are you heading to in France? When it's this cold outside I love planning our continental adventure

Mmmm - DFDS don't do free caravan in July or August and only go into Le Havre. Online price of around £460 for the dates we're travelling.
We have used them in the past for going to Dunkirk when visiting friends in Holland and they were fab value for money then, but we travelled in September as our little one wasn't at school then.
We're off to Brittany this year - need to look forward to some sun after the recent weather here!
Brittany is lovely - I hope the sun shines for you
We're trying to guaratee sun by heading to the Languedoc via the Dordogne

That sounds fab Lucy!
This is our first time taking the caravan abroad, so we're being deliberately boring this time! ;-)
Driving in France is soo much easier than over here, the roads are quieter and the drivers are better - once you've done a couple of roundabouts it's really straightforward too - enjoy
