Has anyone been here? Can it be as good as it looks?

I've not stayed there but I can vouch for the beaches on Noirmoutier - they are gorgeous. My only concern would be the weather... it would have to be good.

We were in the Vendee last summer and the weather was a bit hit and miss. The beaches were nice but, having never been to that part of France before, we were a bit underwhelmed.

I have walked past La Vendette and it looks lovely. Next to amazing beaches, woods, walkable to the town centre along a lovely sea path, loads of wildlife. The weather in Noirmoutier has been lovely when I've been in summer. It has sometimes rained but not for long.

Agree ref. La Vendee region in general but Noirmoutier is definitely worth a visit.

Oh God I am going mad. Can't make my mind up. I didn't realise the weather was so unpredictable. Bay of Biscay should have given me that clue...
I don't suppose anyone has a recommended site anywhere between calais and the cevennes to add to my addled mind - lake or riverside? Ideally I am after the back to nature kind of camping, not bothered about a waterpark.

I totally loved Normoutier, despite the mixed weather. You won't get guaranteed sun in France unless you go to the far south (and even then you can get freak bad weather).
