Just looked at the Hilleberg Atlas which looks great but gobsmacked to see the basic tent is £1500.
Have asked on here before about Vango tents and feedback was a bit variable (and very useful) so I didn't get one.
How about Outwell? Or any other recommendations for a great tent for wet weekends in Scotland?

Get something with a sewn in groundsheet, preferably 'bucket' style, and a hh of at least 3000mm and you will be fine.
Outwell, Vango, bog standard Coleman - all fine.

Hi
I hope you don't mind me posting this .I'm selling a 6 man vango orchy 600 complete with canopy and carpet for £200 , west London if you are interested , great tent for family of 4
Can email picture and more details
Otherwise we've had tents from outwell ( very well designed) , Vango ( a bit cheaper) and go outdoors own brand. - just make sure that you go for 1-2 more beds than you need to give you a bit more space

Our little Gelert is used for several weekends every summer and has served us well for 9 years!

Get a bell tent. Get much more for your Money and you don't spend the first half of your weekend putting it up and the second half taking it down.
We have a couple of pop-ups (a 2-man and a 3-man) for quickie weekend camps, but for longer camps we have a 5-man, 2-berth, Wynnster dome tent. They don't make it any more, but when we bought it 7y ago it was about £300.
So £1500 for a family tent sounds slightly ridiculous.
We've had several bits of Wynnster equipment over the last 10y or so, and been very pleased with their durability and waterproofness.
Our pop-ups, are Eurohike and Quechua. Not much difference between them (though the 3-man Quechua has a small porch, which is IMO essential). Both are easy to use, comfortable, and watertight.

We got an outwell nevada L last year. It has 3no. 2-man bedroom compartments with the option of zipping 2 together or having the 3rd down to make more living space. So very flexible family arrangements. Plenty space inside with optional porch bumping it up further. It's a massive tunnel but only took us 30 minutes to put it up. Great for overnight/weekends or longer holidays too. 269 at the end of last season so we thought it was very reasonable for the size/features which include a sewn in groundsheet. However it's more comfort camping than mountaineering and it wouldn't go up easily in a stiff breeze.

I have a 3 man outwell and it's very well designed. Really easy for one person to put up/take down. It is pretty big and heavy when it's packed away and because of this I bought a bell tent instead. I have a very small car so every last mm is precious!!

Thanks everyone, I will look those up. Wohman, that sounds a great deal, but we are a long, long way from you and probably the postage would be a fortune.

We got a Vango Orchy 600 last year ex-display for £120 including postage. It has a big 'living room' and a bedroom that could zip into 2 rooms when dd is older, plenty of room for the whole family including dogs. Worth looking on ebay for something similar?

Yeah I am. It isn't as lovely as the bell tent I secretly yearn for, but it's a good, servicable tent that fits our limited budget. It's very spacious and has lantern loops and helpful pockets in the places where I need them. I can't really comment on how robust it is as I've only camped in it twice, but it seems ok. It does take two people to set up, though.

Look at Kampa tents as well, we have one of those and I love it.
Steel poles, 6 berth, bedrroms across the back, large living area then an attached front porch. The whole front zips away and makes the tent seem huge. Plus there is an annex on the side for the loo.
We got it for £300 because it was a cosmetic second, there was some darker patches on the roof. All faded now.
You certainly don't need to spend £1500.

We have a Kampa frinton 4 as a weekender. Excellent tent for 4 of us and goes up in less than 35 mins - that's all pegged and bedrooms set up if dh and I are working as a team.

A second vote for Kampa tents, we have the same one (& the same reduction!) as Doyouthinktheysaurus and love it! It's the Filey 6, we are a family of 5, you'd have tons of space if there's only 4 of you.
