Oh and a lot of CMPI children also can't have soya - DS is more sensitive to soya than cows milk.
We use Oatly mainly and also use it to make custard and rice pudding. Our expert at GOSH said Almond milk is fine as it is processed to remove most of the allergy-causing proteins. We use Redwood "Wot No Dairy" as an alternative to yogurt - DS loves them.
that's an idea boobybum
though her skin has been bad since she started weaning so wondering if there is a slight general intolerance.
I'd recommend the vitamin enriched coconut milk as it is much creamier than rice milk. Make sure it is not a tin of coconut milk though.
Also as you said there wasn't a problem with yoghurt, could it be because the milk is in its raw state. Maybe try boiling and cooling it before you give it to your little one?
DH picked up some very expensive flaxseed milk so hope it doesn't make her, Er, too regular
Otherwise turns out you can get oat milk
of your Trader Joe's. We only have Whole Paycheque here
.
Yes worth a try - give maybe a little and see how she fares?
Have you got and uk family coming over...? Can they bring a suitcase of milk
? Or try online stores?
local trader joe's only had soy or almond milk as alternatives - almond milk might be fine right? No nut allergies in the family (are almonds nuts or seeds?!) so figure this might be better than soya?
Will go to Whole food tomorrow to see what else but expecting it to be very expensive...BUT I did find coconut milk yoghurt
I would avoid soya too as can cause similar reactions!
I was just reading about this today. Apparently Hemp milk is a really good choice for non-dairy babies and I'm sure it's widely available in the US (I'm in Canada and we've got a few different brands here). Also read something recently about carrageenan (added as a thickener) being undesirable, health-wise, so that might be something to research more.
Starfish I could it was you from the first post! Hello lovely - should ahve thought of just emailing you actually!!
Having said that I'm not sure any of these brands I can find in US...so what ARE these things, roughly (as in, oat milk? soya milk? you get almond milk here a lot, and coconut milk)
Alpro yoghurt tastes ok
Vegusto cheese is really good, but pricey. Dezent/rezent flavours are best.
I give mine calcium enriched oatly or kara (calcium enriched)
You can also give foods like hummus, spinach/kale, sweet potatoes, soft boned fish to keep up calcium levels.
Oh haHA, mousey I've just seen it's you! Hello, your Cornish outpost speaking
. Ah, well, not sure how helpful the above is or whether you can get those brands where you are? I'm the doyenne of dairy free tots now though so if you need recipes email me xx
Oatly (the non organic calcium enriched one), Kara (derived from coconut), Alpro Almond or a mix of all three. They are quite addictive. Especially Kara with a couple of ice cubes on a hot day. Mmm mm.
And if you need a butter alternative you can buy a spread called Pure in olive or soya versions. For baking use rapeseed oil and for mash use olive oil.
No successful alternatives to yogurt. Or cheese.
If you are going to do dairy free, do it for at least two weeks with her and eliminate every dairy source. Corn snacks, cakes, meatballs, biscuits and cereal bars are a dairy minefield.
Hope it helps.
ah! an allergies board...what a good idea! thanks...
Really don't know on that one sorry, have you tried posting on the allergies board Girl, you might get a few more replies.
You can always offer calcium rich foods while you are waiting to find out, try her with things like sardines and salmon
tought this might be the most relevant section - DD is 12months, EBF til 9months then gradually moved onto Formula until fully ff by 10.5months, now moving her onto cow's milk.
I've always suspected a mild dairy intolerance and the last few nights she's seemed to wake up in pain so wodnering if it's linked with introduction of cow's milk (although there doesn't seem to be a difference on days she has yoghurt for example and when she doesn't) so thought it might be worth getting rid of dairy for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference - but what milk would you give instead? She still has 3 bottles a day, which seems like an awful lot of soy....
