Best formula to change to?

DD2 is on SMA. Its not agreeing with her and we have decided to change.

So which is the best milk to go on to? We dont need stay down or dairy free or anything specific. Just something a little less rich!

we have used hipp organic and both girls fine on it

DD didn't agree with SMA either, but we swapped to cow and gate and she is great on it. My hv said that we might have to try a few of them before we got the right one for DD but luckily she was fine on cow and gate

Whichever one you do swap too, I'd make sure you can get it in your local shops. You don't want to be snowed in and the nearest place that sells the formula is the other side of town.

Both of my dn were fine on hipp organic too btw.

We switched from SNA to cow and gate. DS likes it and no problems with it here.

Just try a few of the small cartons of different brands, perhaps, then you don't waste your money on a whole box until you know it's OK?

We switched from sma to aptamil and my son is great on it, hardly ever is sick.

Thanks. We are having a bad night tonight. (Havent got out to get new stuff yet.)

She seems to drop a feed around lunchtime and then want to make it up in the evening but then shes too full.

I think we will try aptimil first! Thanks all :)

Be aware aptimil is (or was?) marketed heavily to HCPs hence the bias towards it and people reporting their HV has recommended it etc. It's not necessarily the best (there isn't a "best" :)) and it happens to be the most expensive!

Agree with Bertie.

We switched from sma to aptamil, on advice from the health visitor as bertie says. It was fine for ds1, Dd and although ds2 is breast fed we use aptamil cartons if we need formula for any reason.

I was told that aptamil and C&G are made by the same company and are effectively the same thing - apart from the price!

Hmm. Most expensive. Dont like that.

Aaaagh. Decisions. I just want a milk that is easy on her tummy. I should have just tried to breastfeed but I decided to cut out the stress that I had with DD1 (I dont know why I couldnt bf her, it just didnt work). Talk about guilt now :(

DS liked hipp organic. It also smells nicer than the rest

As someone else said, aptimil and cow and gate are the same formula in different packaging. They're made by the same people.

Think Im leaning towards hipp now (If my local sells it!)

When DD1 turned 1 I bought C+G follow on and it smelled so sickly sweet. I think she had one bottle of it before I chucked it and just gave her cows milk.

Our local supermarket doesn't sell hipp but the chemist does so it might be worth having a nosey around.

Aptamil

The 1 year plus milk has vanilla flavouring added Confused probably why it smelled sweet? The infant/6 month plus formula is normal.

I changed DS from SMA Gold to Cow & Gate, despite MW insisting I persevere with the SMA I could not cope with his constipation and belly ache.He was fine on Cow & Gate, my DD adored SMA Gold but I think it was too rich for DS.

Yes, DD1 loved sma. No problems at all. But DD2 is windy with it, vomits it now and again, and yesterday and today has had runny poos.

We phoned OOH last night and MW said to keep an eye and that SMA was most likely the cause.

Is my HV going to cause a fuss if we change? I dont care really but would like to be ready for it.

So we got C+G today as they didnt have hipp anywhere near us.

Shes just had her first bottle and has brought it back up. Is this normal?

Shes also had very little apetite today compared to usual.

Not really sure, hopefully someone with experience will be along soon though.

Do you think the problems are definitely the formula? Are you still under the mw? If so, I'd give them a call.

Report
wannabedomesticgoddess · 05/12/2012 20:17

We called them the other night (well we called OOH and they put us through to the mw when they heard her age) and the mw said it was most likely the formula.

Shes had two more feeds (smaller than usual) and has brought a little of each back up.

She is now acting hungry, which the MW said would happen. Dont know if we are doing the right thing but we have started now so hopefully in a few days it will settle.
