Blocked duct in areola?

DD is 3 weeks old and I thought the breastfeeding was going okay. Right hand side is fine but I'm not really sore on the left which has got worse over the last 24 hours. The breast area is fine to touch, but agony bruised feeling on areola. I can feel a lump on the areola in a few places so assume I've got a blocked duct but also getting shooting pains after a feed...?

I'm struggling to clear it as its so close to the nipple and therefore DDs mouth. Ay suggestions? also not had the shooting pains before with blocked duct.. Is this normal?

please help, it's agony! :(

Ow Sad.

Have you tried warmth (bath/shower or heat pack) and massage? What about feeding with baby's chin in different positions? Ibuprofen could help with the pain and also to reduce any inflammation. Oh, and feed feed feed, on that side first, but don't totally neglect the other breast.

I hope it improves soon.

Yes I've been trying that all day but it just feels like its getting worse... It is hard though as so close to the nipple.

Now wondering if mastitus :( no fever or other symptoms but had blocked ducts before and never this painful.

Thanks

I could do, DP is off this week and DD1&2 are in childcare, but was looking forward to actually getting some stuff done tmrw (sad I know). Does rest actually help?

Off to see if I can find some ibruprofen... Shooting pains are horrible. Didn't have this pain with DDs :(

How are things going? If still bad have a chek over your nipple a few times when dd was feeding I had what is called a nipple blister that caused a blockage. Sometimes it is like an actual blister however in my case it was just a bit of skin (or something) covering one of the openigs on my nipple I was only able to see this when I put pressure on as to hand express from the breast. Tiny white spot on the nipple that was slightly bulging under the pressure. If you do have one of these advice is to see a nurse to pop/remove the blister/skin. I did it myself Check kellymom.com there is info there.

Hi Death. Went to the doctors today and I've been given antibiotics for mastitus, however a white spot has appeared on my nipple today. Saying that milk is coming out of it when I push on a certain area however not where the lump is!! :(
