I've been researching googling, trying to become more informed about the whole BF vs FF question, and the Nestle boycott, and actions I can take to promote the health and well-being of babies. Personally I have a hard time getting enthusiastic about the boycott; there's conflicting information out there, and after years of boycotts, the major players don't seem to have amended many of their ethically dubious, if not downright outrageous, practices.
One of the major points of discussion seems to be that formula manufacturers pour huge sums of money into advertising, or spreading their "educational materials". Yet there is little money for the spread of information about BF support or the need to use formula safely. So I want to put my support behind the other side of the argument.
What charities or organisations do you know of that actively work to support women in providing their babies with safe nutrition through the first years of their life? Preferably with some operations in developing countries, not only industrial. Most of what I've found online is either coordinating bodies that don't have direct action, or organisations whose online presence is so focused on their campaigns against formula manufacturers who breach the WHO code that I can't see what else they do.
Who do you suggest I support, this giving season?
