Dd is almost 5 weeks old and over last few nights she has been very distressed at the breast. She feeds brilliantly during the day then come evening and through the night she cries, refuses to latch and gets herself into quite a state. Nothing else has changed apart from she has had a big increase of dirty nappies. I'm a first time mum so would really appreciate some advice.

Congratulations on your little one!!!!!
I bf my little girl till 15 months, and am feeding my seven month old, have a friend who is bf counsellor though as do find particularly in first 4 months bf is a journey and goes through changes as your little one changes, particularly with growth spurts! One thing I found was of they're tired and your milk isn't coming as quick then they keep pulling off and get upset. Sounds funny but I was told rub hand over boob briskly and then put babe on and then massage whilst he gets going! It did work! Keep going, you'll get through it and theres wealthy of advice on here. Be great to get a bf counsellor though, is there one nearby you?

The other thing I guess might be colic or reflux? No expert though. You could chat to hv perhaps.

My DS did/does this in the evening, I think he's overtired as better in the night after he's had a sleep. I settle him with a dummy blush then feed when he wakes again. How strong is your let-down reflex? Little ones struggle with a strong reflex especially when tired?
Also could be related to her wanting hindmilk and getting foremilk, you could try expressing a bit then letting her latch on?

Also should have mentioned that I've luckily been pain free so far breast feeding but now getting some discomfort. As for my let down I'm really unsure as to whether it's strong or notblush how do I know?
