My 15 week old EBF baby has never had any problems with feeding - no colic or reflux (we've been very lucky). However, over the last two days, she has started bringing up milk after feeds. Not huge amounts, perhaps a teaspoon or so. She's not distressed by it, and nappies are normal. Fontanelle is not depressed. I wondered if it was reflux, but surely that would have started before now? Any ideas, does she need to see the GP?

My DD is older (21 weeks) but has been doing this in the last week or so too. I think its because her feeding pattern has changed as she's quite distracted and is gulping down very quickly before looking around. Has yours started feeding more quickly?

If it's only a teaspoon or two and she isn't upset by the possetting I wouldn't do anything (except invest in some muslins and bibs!). It's very normal for small amounts of milk to be brought up (it's called posset).

It would be worth seeing the GP if she screamed while vomiting, arched her back and went stiff/threw herself around while being sick (called posturing), screamed while lying flat (e.g. nappy change/pram) or brought up whole feeds worth.

It may be she is coming down with a cold as the mucous can make babies a little more prone to being sick post-feed but nothing to worry about.

Thanks both. She has started feeding much faster. Every so often in a feed she will throw herself off, arch her back and go rigid, then latch on again. She doesn't bring up any wind when i burp her.

Can possetting happen more than an hour after a feed?

Perhaps try phoning one of the bfing helplines and talking it through?

Possetting can happen at any time (it can be positional too [i.e. if they bend forward and bring a little up]).

Sounds exactly what we have but actually I hadn't connected the two. Have texted the BF support worker we saw when DD was much younger, will let you know what she says when I see her.

Spoke to bf support worker who thought as discussed that its due to fast eating. Thought reflux would have shown itself by now so not that. She said its a common phase and baby showed pass through it.
