Hello :)

I Bfed DD1 the whole way through my pregnancy with DD2 and I'm feeding both DDs now (DD2 is 4 wo now). It's all gone really well for me. I know some women find that their supply dips during pregnancy but I never had any complaints from DD1. I didn't get sore nipples until the last couple of weeks of pregnancy but it was bearable and as soon as DD2 was born everything was fine.

DD1 has regressed a fair bit since DD2 was born, she'll hardly eat any solid food at the moment so she's BF loads which is hard work but I think it's made the upheaval of becoming a big sister easier for her.

This book is brilliant, it has a mixture of evidence-based info and anecdotes from tandem mums so it's very helpful. If there's a LLL group near you then you might be able to meet other tandem feeders IRL.

There are quite a few other tandem feeding mums on mumsnet, many more experienced than me Grin so I'm sure you'll get plenty of helpful replies.

Oops, forgot to say congrats on your pregnancy :)

Congratulations on your DC2. I don't have any experience, well, a couple of days, but I had full intention of BF DD till she was at least 2 years but became pregnant when she was 20 months and she self weaned very quickly. I didn't know that I was pregnant when she weaned but was a wee bit sad that she stopped so seemingly abruptly, although it did mean I could have a couple more drinks. I was told that sometimes the milk changes or depletes while pregnant and the BFing one weans themselves. Just wanted to pass along my experience.

Congratulations!

I was still bf-ing DS when I got pg and was happy to carry on with the idea that we might end up tandem feeding. Found it quite painful during the first trimester though, but then it was fine - I was only feeding a couple of times a day though. When he was 22 months and I was 24 weeks pg I took a short term contract where I was working 12 hours a day, and at some point then he self-weaned - I think my supply had dropped right off, and I had adopted a 'don't offer, don't refuse' policy without really thinking about it - and he just stopped asking. The 'adventures in tandem nursing' book was great (it is expensive but you can resell on ebay).

I have to say I was quite relieved in the end that I got 4 months bf-free time before DD was born, but I really missed the 'quick fix' of bf-ing - bedtime etc.

I thought DS might be jealous when he saw DD feeding, but quite the opposite - he is very firm that 'baby wants B' (his word for it) whenever she cries.

My advice would be to keep going as long as you both are happy to do so but don't have any expectations of how it might turn out.

Best wishes for a fab pregnancy Smile
