Jojo Moyes' Me Before You was a phenomena with over 3 million copies sold worldwide. Fans are in for a treat this summer with her latest novel The One Plus One which follows the story of a relentlessly determined and supportive single parent, Jess. Described as 'a heartbreaking, laugh-out-loud, thought-provoking, emotional rollercoaster' by The Sunday Express, Moyes' story tells of an unexpected love story that develops amid the ups and downs of a hectic family life.

Jojo Moyes is a novelist and a journalist. She worked at the Independent for ten years before leaving to write full time. Her previous novels have all been critically acclaimed and include Me Before You, The Girl You Left Behind, The Ship of Brides, Foreign Fruit, and The Last Letter from Your Lover. She lives in Essex with her husband and their three children. Jojo will be joining us for a webchat on 30 September to chat about The One Plus One so post your questions in advance or join us on the night.

We have 50 copies of Jojo's book to giveaway. Apply here for a free copy. If you're one of the lucky 50 we will inform you next Tuesday (29 July). If you don't access a free copy, order it up online to read over the summer and join us for book club in September.

Happy reading!

I have read this now - has anyone else?

I'd like to ask JoJo:

Much of your portrayal of Jess's poverty and hard work rang true except for two things:

  1. The Rolls Royce - this was just unbelievable, first that they would have one and secondly that she would compare the prices of the coach and train, find them too expensive and then decide to drive an uninsured and untaxed Rolls Royce the length of Britain in order to save money.

  2. The fact she was going to be away from work for several days - she would lose income from those days and this would be a huge factor in making her decision. The shortest time she was away from her jobs, the better. This was again a reason why she wouldn't want to drive there.

I really liked Me Before You and have to say I was disappointed with this novel. Sorry!
ImperialBlether · 11/08/2014 12:39

I didn't have an email to say I'd got a copy either, MNHQ - maybe something went wrong there? Thank you for sending it, in any event.

Thank you for my free copy. I am about a hundred pages in so far and am enjoying it so far. If only the kids would leave me alone so I can carry on reading!

revealall · 14/08/2014 11:21

I read this in two days flat. Not read Me before a You but will do now.

Loved the book. So refreshing to find an easy novel that isn't American or featuring unbeliveable glamorous characters.

My only jarring points were towards the end the book kept mentioning Jess's unrelenting positivity. I think one of the first things to go in poverty is the cheery optimism. I quite liked her in the beginning without it.
I didn't really believe the drama over the earring either. I don't think people that rich give a damn what the cleaners think.
Also NO ONE drives at 40 miles an hour to an important and life changing competition? You would just put her in front let her be sick for the 12 hours it takes to drive and have two days recovery.

Anyway my mums now got it and she's loving it too.

I have had an email to say I should have had a copy, but it's not hereHmm.
