anyone registered for NaNoWriMo (starts 1 November)?

Hello

Have any other Mumsnet Bloggers registered for NaNoWriMo this year? For those who don't know, its a challenge for people to take time to write 50,000 words during November on that novel idea they've had for years but done nothing about (or 1600 words/day, each day). As they put it, to turn aspiring novelists into perspiring novelists, and by the end of November to have much of a first draft. Turn that blog to a book now.

Free to join, great helpful website, pep talks - and various tools like write-ins, writer buddies, etc. I'm doing it for the first time and keen to get Writer Buddies if you are already registered (ThresholdMum). Visit www.nanowrimo.org to find out more

I think about doing it every year, Threshold, and every year I don't because I just don't have the time!

I'm considering it but I'm busy editing my third novel right now and have already started work on the fourth. Working on stuff you've already started is a big NaNo faux pas so I may have to sit it out this year. ;)

Good luck to those who do it though!

I would like to but have already started writing my novel and I hear that is not allowed?

It would be good to have the pressure support of others to persuade me to get going on it.

I've signed up for it. I meant to do it last year but got bogged down. This year, I'm going to go for it Grin

Ah, sod it. I've signed up as I wanted to make a start on Book Five soon anyway so might as well use NaNo as an impetus to get cracking. :)

Plus I get Scrivener for half price at the end of the month if I win... ;)

Scrivener is pretty awesome, I beta tested it when they first released it for Windows :)

I really hate Scrivener as I think it's clunky and tiresome to use, but am persevering nonetheless as I thought it might help keep me organised while I write two books at the same time. I wouldn't pay full price for it though.

Oh no, I wouldn't pay full price for it, but I like the card things that keep all my chapters and whatnot separated. I tried liquid storybinder, but I really just couldn't get to grips with it Confused

I think I like the card things too - they make me feel happy and relatively well organised for once! :)

I also like the fact it means I don't have to bug my husband to convert books for Kindle as it can do it for me. Hurray! :)

I didn't know it could do that! Shock

I did it a few years ago with dh too. Was great fun. No time to do it again though.

I have discovered the Rebel section so have signed up. Will continue the novel that I have started. It is not about winning, it is about getting it finished so that I can start editing.

I like Scrivener. There are things wrong with it, for sure, but it's way better than just using word for organising a novel! Or two!

MmeGuillotine · 01/11/2011 08:49

I have a Mac so I don't use Word - I use Pages which is the same but different. I've written three books on it now without incident, although not at the same time! ;)

Will investigate Skrivener as I have just spent ages sorting out the ms cause I had all the chapters labelled wrongly. Argh.

I'm registered - since I have visitors most of the month and am traveling for a week I'm not sure how far I'll get, but hey, it'll be a start.

I've registered but looks like we'll be moving house in 4 weeks so not sure quite how realistic the idea is...

I'm in, I'm up and thanks to the wonderful members of Mumsnet, I've called it 'The Zombie Plan'.

Good luck to everyone!

I've signed up to this, it looks really interesting. I have, however, been stuck all day trying to think of an idea to start with.

I'm doing it. Am almost on target for today, plan to get the rest written when the sprogs are in bed.
Am Kiwican on NNWM, if you want to buddy up with me.

I'll add you now, I've got the same name on there Grin

CheeseandGherkins - sometimes, the best way to get started, is to just write about something that happened today, anything at all and then expand it into something from there. It's what I've done in the past to get going and even though I never use the bit I started with, it got words on the page.

Maybe that could work for you?

Ah thanks, that would be easier than just trying to start off cold. I'll give it some thought :)

I signed up to this yesterday and wrote my first 2,500 words today. I'll only be writing on weekdays so doing this amount each day will get me there I think.
I love the idea of this - just getting words on a page and getting the flow going without fussing about the exact wording of a paragraph - and it seems an excellent way of getting into the habit and rhythm of writing daily.

Off to investigate this buddy thing. I've registered as Northern Girl on there I think, so will try to add Sephrenia and Southernandcross now
