Message for first birthday card after death of a partner

how thoughtful of you op.

it actually upset me when mil sent dh a birthday card that said of all the sons in the world you are the best....

3 months after our son died

i'm sure she ment no harm but it really hurt

I have deliberately selected a card which doesn't say 'hope this is the best birthday'.

I would say something like "thinking of you. Look after yourself and hope you have a good day".

When I leave a birthday message on a bereaved friend's FB (I have a large network of bereaved parents as friends) I put something like 'I hope today is kind to you'
Or 'have a good day and do something nice'

I never do the 'happy Birthday' thing

Need to write a card to someone that lost their partner earlier this year.
