I think someones been watching too many kids programmes on TV...

GirlsAreLoud · 05/08/2009 20:39

Stone Roses.

weaselm4 · 05/08/2009 20:40

Lola's boyfriend in Run Lola Run, I think? Quite like it. If you do, then go for it!

luckylady74 · 05/08/2009 20:40

It just says stone roses to me - I have the best of cd in my car and imo they're never a bad thing!

skybright · 05/08/2009 21:11

pattymc · 05/08/2009 21:18

tummytickler · 05/08/2009 21:18

Handy Manny!
dd loves it!
And Black Books - i love that show - wish they would make more!

But, Mani is ok as a nn for Manwell, Manfred, Emmanuel or something. I dont like any of those names really, but i dont think you can use just Manny (imo)

skybright · 05/08/2009 21:25

Thanks for the link..i think the name Mani means Jewel.

Oh well,it's on the list.

I teach a Manpinder AKA Mani. Not sure it really works as a stand alone name.

MrsFawlty · 05/08/2009 21:27

I like it, but again, Stone Roses fan. Saw him the other day, actually.

hester · 05/08/2009 21:29

I like Manny short for Emmanuel - as in a Jewish old bloke's name. I predict Jewish old bloke's names are due a revival - Manny, Moishe, Pincus...

ginhag · 05/08/2009 22:52

Mani (deep breath)

Persian for Soul
Hindu for Jewel
Aborigine for Equal

and yeah also the bassist in stone roses.

It's my son's name so I think the op has very good taste.

And obviously I will ignore anyone that says otherwise,as I couldn't possibly imagine my boy with a different name

magbags · 06/08/2009 13:52

Mani is also the Wooly Mamoth in Ice Age.

pedalmonster · 06/08/2009 18:46

any boys name ending in I is bound to cause a stir... unless it is a cultural thing, eg Indian, but a caucasian guy called Mani just sounds like Manny, which is IMO not great.

bronze · 06/08/2009 18:49

Rses/Primal Scream for me too

Not that I think that thats a bad thing

bronze · 06/08/2009 18:53

Having said that hes Gary really

ginhag · 06/08/2009 19:44

pedalmonster I certainly haven't noticed it causing a stir so far! tbh most people seem to like the name and think it suits him.

FranSanDisco · 06/08/2009 19:47

Did Laura Ingles marry Manni in Little House? I am sure he was Manni but she called him Manly

MmeLindt · 06/08/2009 19:53

Mani for me is short for Manfred and was a very common name in Germany about 50 years ago. The stereotypical Mani was a guy who wore cowboy boots and drove a Opel Mantra, girlfriend was called Sandra and was a hairdresser. There was a film a few years back called Manta Manta, not sure if he was called Mani but he could have been. It is a real "redneck" "chav" name in Germany.

Which is of absolutely no interest to you or your baby since you live in UK, but in the interest of full disclosure...

rubyslippers · 06/08/2009 19:54

Manny - yes

Mani - no

stubbyfingers · 06/08/2009 20:02

Mani

totalmisfit · 07/08/2009 18:05

stone roses for me too. great name though, especially if it's a homage to one of the greatest bands in history.
