OK, tell me what girls you think I should be thinking of?

I have a Harry (Harrison) so would like something that 'matches' that IYSWIM.

Our shortlist (OK, my shortlist which I have repeated over and over mentioned to DH) is:

Imogen (but I don't like Immy and DH doesn't like Genny)
India (but shortened to Indy might make people think I have a Harrison Ford issue!)
Amelia (but popular????)
Emily

PLEASE offer any / all suggestions!!

thankyou!

HM

I like Emily and Amelia best from your list. Are you that concerned about how popular names are? According to a site I've just found, Emily was 4th most popular last year, Amelia 11th, Imogen 40th. I can't see India anywhere in the top fifty.

I think you have to go for a name you love and sounds right rather than how unusual it is. You might go off the name in a few weeks/months/years and wish you had chosen something else.

Why not just call her by the full version e.g Imogen? Why does she need a nickname?

stillstanding · 24/06/2009 20:28

I like all of them! Emily and Amelia probably my favourits.

Boys2mam · 24/06/2009 20:29

Oh mine aren't called Mia and Thea (just had myself a chuckle at that!), they're on my wishlist for DC3, who will be a girl (not yet conceived, still trying to bully persuade DP).

janeite · 24/06/2009 20:51

Imogen is nice enough but Immy and Genny both v silly sounding imho.

I don't like India.

Emily is nice and classic and not heard as much nowadays.

Amelia is okay.

Beatrice

janeite where we are there are loads of Emily's - not surprisingly as its a lovely name

Bonneville · 24/06/2009 21:31

Why does Genny sound silly? I am assuming it is pronounced the same as Jenny/Jennie.

Haribosmummy · 24/06/2009 21:33

Yes - Genny as Jenny..

There are loads of Emilys around here too...
(not that that really matters - Harry isn't exactly uncommon!!
