Hi, DH & I are having trouble on agreeing on boys names. Thought we had found something we both like - Xavier. But with a DS called Oliver, are these too similar sounding for two brothers? Like to hear your thoughts.

I don't like Xavier at all, sorry, reminds me of Javier. Abit too simelar sounding too.

abear · 11/06/2009 08:23

I think it sounds fine - I have an Oliver and never thought of Xavier but like it and wouldn't have had a problem putting it with Oliver.

BonsoirAnna · 11/06/2009 08:39

Javier and Xavier are the same name - the former is Spanish and the latter is French.

I think Oliver and Xavier are too similar.

SilentBob · 11/06/2009 09:38

I wouldn't, they are far too similar for my liking. Sorry.

hedgiemum · 11/06/2009 09:57

I don't think they are too similar (3 syllables and ending in -er, I don't think that rules them out as sibling names.)

Xavier is on our short list, so of course I think it s a lovely name and you have fabulous taste!

sophiesmummie · 11/06/2009 10:15

I love Xavier!

I think Ollie and Xav go well together, as do Oliver and Xavier.

midnightexpress · 11/06/2009 10:17

I love Xavier. I adore the way they pronounce it in French (sort of kzavier, mmmmmmmmm). And how cool to have a name beginning with X.

sonniboo · 11/06/2009 10:31

My nephew's are called Xavier and Quentin and both love having unusual first letters .

I wouldn't think Xavier and Oliver are too common. I love Xavier!

Nikna · 11/06/2009 14:10

ooooh, more confused than ever now! I do really like Xavier. hmmmmmm

I much prefer Xander to Xavier - and it goes better with Oliver too, imo.

SecondhandRose · 11/06/2009 19:15

Isnt Xander short for Alexander though? Xav rhymnes with Chav, not sure if that would be a problem for you?

Quattrocento · 11/06/2009 19:20

I love Xavier - the Xavier I know is shortened to Zavvy.

wolfear · 11/06/2009 20:41

I really like Xavier, but it's too similar to Oliver. Oli and Xave are both nice NNs though.

Mummyisamonster · 11/06/2009 20:44

Lovely names but sound way too similar, sorry

cookie100 · 11/06/2009 21:08

One of those names that he'd have to spell to people wherever he went?

sonniboo · 12/06/2009 10:37

I wonder how those of you pronounce Xavier who say it is similar too Oliver?

To me they sound very different.... and go very well together imo!

Firawla · 15/06/2009 21:29

i think they sound nice together
only thing is that oliver is v popular at the moment and xavier is way more rare, but doesn't necessarily matter
