I woke from a dream - the baby was a girl called Nest. Is it a sign?

Our others have Welsh names, but Nest was never before on DH or my lists. Since my dream I can't stop thinking about it. It was so real (but should admit I'm not even pg yet with next baby). What would it be like to be called Nest? To Non-welsh it would be another "apple" type of name. To my ears it is a simple, beautiful name...but what does MN think?

er...odd. sorry. Is it a Welsh name then?

dontletbedbugsbite · 23/11/2008 08:14

Yes. It is welsh version of Agnes.

I think it sounds lovely.

PixieMoon · 23/11/2008 08:45

I also think it is lovely....(meaning: pure, chaste!)...but I am living in Wales, with a Welshman, and also want Welsh names for future dc, I think it'd be fine in Wales but in other places people would think it quite odd and she'd forever be explaining that it is actually a real name.

How about 'Nesta', slightly different version of the same name, but more obviously 'a real name' to the non-initiated! She could still be just 'Nest' at home.

TheNewsMongrel · 23/11/2008 10:55

I don't like it. Very odd. I'm used to celtic names but that's very unnattractive and strange.

I think it's more likely the dream represents nesting, nurturing etc.. feeding a tiny dependent baby (bird!).

CharleeInChains · 23/11/2008 11:06

I'm not keen on the name nest tbh.

When i was pg i had dreams almost everyday that when i went to breast feed the baby it had turned into lots of tiny kittens and goats with really sharp, pointy teeth.......... i am very glad that wasn't a sign of things to come.

sorkycake · 23/11/2008 11:11

Well if you plan on staying in Wales it's fine.
If she plans on venturing outside of Wales when older, she'd better develop a thick skin, or a middle name.

no idea about welshness but nesta/nestor are nice boys names.

love Nesta, would pelt you over the head if you called me Nest

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 17:37

I really much prefer Nesta. I've known the odd one and always found it suited them.

Kwini · 26/11/2008 21:12

I love Nest - and I'm not Welsh!

laughgiraffe · 27/11/2008 01:10

I think its a great name as Nesta or Nest, but then my kids are Padrig and Angharad. (When I fed them they sometimes felt like a kitten or goat with sharp pointy teeth - and i was awake!) Its a good idea think/dream names to make sure you get the right one.

I like Wynne too. Not sure what Tegwen's are like coz we dont live in wales.
