If baby turns out to be a girl, Mary has to be part of her name, I quite like it but want some feedback before suggesting it to dh.

Marianne is utterly gorgeous and if dp would agree to baby number 3, it's the name I would choose.

Go for it!

dizzydixies · 12/05/2008 19:39

am not too keen on Marianne as I myself am a longer version of Mary.......

we too would like to include Mary if this is a girl but I've been looking at alternatives/foreign versions

Maria/Marie obviously
Marin
Malia
Miryam
Maura
Maire

not sure if any of these are to your taste though

nickytwotimes · 12/05/2008 19:39

Oh, that's lovely!

princessmel · 12/05/2008 19:40

I love marianne

janeite · 12/05/2008 19:40

Oh and even my dp loves it - he sighed wistfully and said it's a pity we'll never get to use it.

ChicaLovesHerLocalGreengrocer · 12/05/2008 19:41

I love it, and it makes me think of Darling buds of May!

collision · 12/05/2008 19:42

I suppose it depends on how you say it as some pronounce it Marion.

I would pronounce it Marry-anne which is very pretty.

Mariah
Miriam
Mary-Anne

Oh I love it. Our second choice girl's name

janeite · 12/05/2008 19:48

Marianne (pronounced Marry-ann) is in "Sense And Sensibility" and gets to marry the lovely Colonel Brandon!

Buda · 12/05/2008 19:54

Really really like it . Had an Argentinian friend called Marianne. Love it.

JackieNo · 12/05/2008 19:55

I like it too. Don't know any rl Mariannes.

LynetteScavo · 12/05/2008 19:57

I onece worked for a Marianne, who was an absolute dragon, so that has coloured my opinion.

I do like Marianna, though.

MrsThierryHenry · 12/05/2008 19:59

I knew a lovely Marianne and a scatty but loveable Marianna.

Go for them both!

Aliway · 12/05/2008 20:00

Cool im feeling all cheered up and confident, and happy as its a family name too

I know a Marie-Anne, pronounced Marry-Anne rather than Mareeee -Anne

I think it's pretty but a bit fussy

DiscoDizzy · 12/05/2008 20:02

Sorry not keen.

strawberryfields · 12/05/2008 20:22

Love it. My 19 yr old cousin is called Marianne (pronounced marry-anne)and its such a pretty name. Plus unusual enough for nobody to ever say "which Marianne?"

CristinaTheAstonishing · 12/05/2008 20:28

I have a cousin Mariana, I like it.

I love Anamaria, even Anne-Marie, and had it on my shortlist.

bluebellwood · 22/05/2008 22:33

Pretty name. I always think of the Leonard Cohen song (So long, Marianne) when I hear it.

Tinker · 22/05/2008 22:35

Yes, yes, yes. To have a Leonard Cohen song with your name in the title would be wonderful.

fin42 · 22/05/2008 22:42

I like Marianne it's very pretty, and I also like Marina, not as girly-pretty but elegant imo.My sister's daughter is Moira which is a version of Mary (Scottish)

RosaLuxembourg · 22/05/2008 22:44

I love it. Think Sense and Sensibility. You can call the next one Elinor.

southeastastra · 22/05/2008 22:44

it's nice, like the song though, so long marianne

jessikart · 23/05/2008 00:33

Lovely name - I've considered it for The Bump, along with Mariella - but I think Marianne is nicer. I did like Marianna, but now it just makes me think of the insufferably dreary poem!
