Food type names? Surely not!

So today dd points out a girl from nursery at the supermarket today called Vanilla? I thought I picked her up wrong but no her dad called her it! Definitely one of the strangest names I have heard in a while. I know technically its a plant extract and some would argue its a plant name but really! I just think of vanilla flavoured food! Any other food type names out there?

Well, Peaches Geldof I suppose ...

Vanilla is rather pretty.

I know an Angelica which is nice too.

How about Chelsea (bun)

Had I named DS after my pregnancy cravings, he would now be called Hula Hoops.

I would have Coco Pop and Roast Chicken. Might look better with a hyphen though!

barleysugar Tue 05-Mar-13 20:28:42

Theas18 Tue 05-Mar-13 20:32:34

Plum was the nickname of p g Wodehouse I believe.

Pepper -I know one.

Broccoli ,though I assume that's cubby broccolis actual surname

Cinnamon is pretty but nn cin is not!

Gazing on the tea table Danpak sounds like a loveable kind lad with Polish parents maybe-it's my lidl butter!

Though naming your daughter hot cross bun is so many shades of wrong!

Moominsarehippos Tue 05-Mar-13 20:32:52

I was renamed 'Nigeria' by one of DSs little pals when he was in Reception. I gave up correcting her and got used to it.

No definitely vanilla I asked another mum from nursery maybe hearing it in a very broad Scottish accent makes it sound harsh! In highlander style gruff scots it's Vaaa-niilllahh lol it just doesn't suit a child at all IMO !
