I posted recently about my recent list for DD due in 11 weeks. I wanted Mabel, Maude, Iris and Florence on the list. All bar Florence have been outright rejected by DH. So our new current short list is:
Juliet
Diana
Susannah
Florence
I like the old-fashioned grandma names but DH doesn't. He honestly thought I was joking when I suggested Maude.
So this is the new short list. I love Diana and Susannah but are they a little dated? They are certainly not cracking the top 50 list in my neck of the woods where it's Olivia, Ava, Lily or Chloe.
Florence is the only old-fashioned one he likes. I have tried Edith, Esme, Mabel, Maude, Olive, Iris, Audrey. Nup. All rejected.
Our DS is George and so I wanted another old-fashioned name. However, unless it's Florence, it doesn't appear to be possible. Oh, he does like Rose however I rejected that on the basis of popularity.
Your thoughts, suggestions appreciated.
Juliet, it's gorgeous. I like Anna and what about Clara? Both very lovely.
Diana gets my vote.
Love Juliette & Susannah & jealous of af anyone who has them (vetoed by my DH :-( )
Susannah is gorgeous - great name with lots of lovely short names you can make from it - eg Sukey. Juliet is lovely too.
Diana is a bet meh really - don't know why.
I know Florence has been really popular in recent years but I find it a bit stodgy. Flora is a much nicer alternative. Unfortunately there is the margarine connection though.
really like Diana and Juliet.
i think Rosanna is absolutely gorgeus. what about Marianne?
also like Susanna - but not so keen on Flora and Florence.
Love Flora too
What about Rosemary? He gets Rose, you get something a bit more unusual/old fashioned.
Love them all. My preference is Juliet, Flora, Susannah then Diana. And I have a George!
If you like Anna, how about Hannah?
I like Susanna very much too, but Juliet has poise. I have to say, at the end of the day it's always hard to beat Anna. Juliet is one of our names too, as is Louisa, Cecilla (after Papa) and Beatrix (DH likes it). Then for the outlyer, there's a Linnet.
Susannah is beautiful, and I think on the good (Iris, Florence) side of old fashioned.
Diana is a little 80s to me, and I've never like Juliet as a name because when we studied it at school i thought the character was a silly little fool, but that is very personal!
Susannah and Juliet sound lovely with George.
Rosemary
Rosalyn
Rosevelyn
Rosita
Roseanna
possibles if your DH and you can't agree on Rose
Juliet; love it but hate Julia/Julie and there are so many people with those names and they're so similar that they'd turn me off.
Diana; keep thinking Princess Di or old lady who runs a pub, not sure if I like it.
Susannah; Would prefer Suzanne or Suzanna.
Rosanna; pretty
Florence; pretty
Flora; margarine
I love Mabel
Love Susannah. Prefer Julia to Juliet. But that's because DDs BFF is Julia and it struck me as a cute name!
ANYTHING but Sue. Can't call a child Sue.
Diana will be good, as she may be the same age as the future Queen Diana.
I think all three of your names are good and your DH is side stepping some lovely but rather over used names.
Out of the three I probably like Juliet the most, then Susannah (I like Susie as a nn) and then Diana.
I'm not keen on Florence, Flo is just a dreadful nn (apols to anyone who loves it/has one) but I love Eliazabeth - what about Eliza?
I personally love Esme from your original list. Maybe your DH would like Roise (Irish for Rose and pronounced Rocha) which is what my baby girl is called. Good luck
Just to throw it out there my given name is Diane and i have never been nicknamed Di. It's always been Diane or Dee
Susannah is the only one I really like, I'm not a fan of old lady names (having been saddled with one as a middle name and endured an awful lot of teasing as a result, I still admit to it as rarely as possible in my 40s.
I prefer Laura to Flora or Florence. Laura I have always loved because of the Little House books.
Juliet and Susannah are loely. not keen on diana.
Heck, so what, it's lovely and sounds nice with George!
Unless your name is MacDonald perhaps.
Flora is delightful.
