Its a marmite name and you will without a doubt get " I own a tree" comments.

However I love it as a name I think it is gorgeous and it was our choice for a agirl with ds

Am in Scotland and this name does occur from time to time, perhaps rarer elsewhere? Would not personally be put off by anyone saying "Oh but she'll be saying I own a... ".

Short and unfussy, easy to spell.

The welsh Iona is pronounced 'yoh-na', which I think is a bit nicer and side steps the 'i own a' comments

Well seeing as I'm Iona, I think it's a great choice!

I like my name, and apart from a short spell aged 5 telling people my name was Julie, I always have.

i love the name Iona and really wish i'd thought of it for dd.

i hadn't made the i own a tree connection until i read about it on mumsnet. there is a 7 yo Iona in my extended family, and i think it is just lovely.

Brings to mind a girl who is very confident and knows her own mind, yet elegant and gorgeous. Would that be right, pictish ??

I'm Scottish and think it's a lovely name. Never thought of the 'i own a' option and wouldn't care but I've given DD2 a similar 'difficult for the English' Scottish name. If you raise her to be confident in herself then yshe'll be able to cope with the inane comments.
