2 syllable surname beginning with B rhymes with Mallard! DC1 currently brewing, we are struggling to agree in any we both love sadly, so the Shortlist of ones we both quite like is as follows:
Lyra Penelope
Lyra Madeleine
Edith Penelope
Penelope Rose
Madeleine Rose
Delilah Rose
Madeleine Nieve
Rose Penelope
(Can play around with middle names and order more!) and possibly the German spelling and pron of Madelein/Madeline as we aren't frenchy people at all. Strong connections with Spain hence Nieve (Spanish for snow)... We don't want anything toooooo cutesy and I like unusual names but DH hates them!
Boys name was so much easier! We both completely adore one name, girls.......
I love Penelope. Was on my shortlist but we've managed to produce 3 boys so for obvious reasons never used it. It's also my middle name.
Aww mrs marigold that's a shame. Although I do think name poetry can be quite cool!
Luckily I have never hear of the dirty Bertie books but it wouldn't stop me. My brother is a Henry and the books came out when he was about 8. He bloody loved them! I think probably better to be dirty than horrid! I'm so in love with the name Albert I just wish I could find a girls name that I love as much. I'm hoping for a boy just because of the name which is silly!
I love Edith - it was my gran's name she would've been 106 now, I would've picked it for my daughter but I doesn't work with our surname, which is the most common surname in England.
Dirty Bertie is a popular series of books, fyi.
Penélope And Madeleine are both Excellent choices. Both Will suit spain and when you come back to the UK they will be more unusual...
Certainly different to all the names that are so common here. I had a similar problem and in the end we have two favourites
Now... Santiago and Raphael :-) ... I am from Peru and my husband English.
If the surname is English have you thought about an English two syllable name? That is what we are going to do.
For example
Penelope Anne
Penelope Marie
Penelope Rose
Or Madeleine Rose, Madeleine Anne?
I think is good to have two choices... Then chose when the baby is born. Look at my threat next or before yours x x
Albert! (Bertie really) So could be Alberta lol but everyone would think of Canada!
DH likes Robin but I don't, bad associations from school!
what are your boys names could they be your girls names too ... I like your names but they are all v girlie!
Good point cheese Edith Marie Surname works, the stress falling on the latter syllable. That's good to widen options a bit! Thanks!
Edith Joy
Edith Dawn
Edith Joan
Edith Ruth
Or a two syllable middle name would work I think.... it depends how the stress falls. Edith Anya Surname is very different to Edith Marie Surname in terms of flow, for instance. I wouldn't rule out two syllable middle names completely.
cheesestraws I don't think Delilah is wacky, I adore it, but DH is set in his straight laced ways. I could suggest the Oasis link to him though as he is a massive fan!
The problem with 1 syllable middle names is that there aren't many I suppose so the nice ones really are overused. So its unavoidable or just going with a 3 syllable one. Or Edith Anne similar to your suggestion rhubarb but maybe two oldish names would be a bit too grannyific...
I love Edith. How about Edith Annie?
I don't like Lyra .
I would choose Edith Madeleine from your list ,
I think there are too many Rose as middle names ( or Grace , Eve , Mae / May )
Edith Rose
Lovely. Classic, not out there at all.
DD's middle name is Edith though, and I wish I'd saved it for DD2's first name, so I am biased. But I think that's a gorgeous name.
Delilah isn't wacky - nickname Lila/Lyla - is a song by Oasis. Can you get less posh?!
You could use Delilah as the middle name and choose a name beginning with E as the first name and still have 'Edie'/'E.D.' as the nickname. Although now I think of it, ED is used as an acronym for eating disorder... which would put me off.
Delilah Rose
Edie Penelope is lovely, dislike Edith and Lyra (liar)
Thank you for all your help! Sadly I'm officially not allowed Delilah or any other of my too wacky names :-(. DH also thinks. It has to be a non-posho middle name as he thinks Edith is posh and 2 posh names is ott apparently!
I'm thinking Edith Rose or Edith Penelope? But Rose is the default middle name isn't it?! That puts me off a bit!
Lyra to rhyme with Myra, its a constellation and a character in a Pullman book I like!
Pepper is also a cute nickname for Penelope.
Penelope or Delilah are my faves from your list. Love them both. Both quite rare still.
I do think they go lovely with Rose as a middle name but it is rather popular at the moment.
Pippa is nice too
I like your names
Edith isn't out there, it is classic, and unusual but recognisable which I like in a name.
I think Edith Rose works well, but don't think Edith works with the longer middle name
Like Penelope too and LOVE Madeleine They both work well with Rose.
I don't really warm to Lyra at all, and not sure of pronunciation? To rhyme with Myra? I want to say it like the first half of Lyrical, but I know that can't be right!
Edith and Penelope (Nell) are my other 2 favourite names along with Madeline
And Elsa.
Penelope Rose or Edith Rose - both gorgeous!
Lyra Penelope or Delilah Rose.
I love Lyra, that is a cool, unusual but not out there name.
Dislike Edith, but then I can't stand all the old lady names.
