Roscoe is Roscoe Tanner to me -- American tennis player from the 70s I think; it just makes me thing of the golden age of polyester.

Byron -- an American middle aged banker I knew. His family origins were Scottish. Again the polyester theme with Byron.

Milo -- I prefer Myles
Finn -- very popular, so much so that people in my neck of the woods are calling babies Finnegan and other Finn-like names, branching out from the original Finn.
Eden -- the only Edens I know are girls and I know several.

I like Amos too, a friend's one year old is called that. But I don't think we especially want two children named after Old testament prophets, even though we are Christians! So that rules out Malachai too, which is also a very cool name.

It's true, it does change a lot depending on where you live. We don't know any Zacharys around here but I keep hearing of friends who live near to one. I've got on really well with it as a name - we use Zach and Zachary pretty interchangeably and love both (well we love the boy who owns it I guess!)

Whoops I didn't realise Lord Byron was cosy with his sister - I mean it's not like we'd be naming DC AFTER him, we thought of it after meeting a Byron from Australia - but admittedly over here everyone will think of the poet, if they think of anything.

Dukes of Hazard, whatever...no one of DC's generation will watch it and I hardly did either so I wouldn't let a minor TV character put me off a name I like

I love Malachi, but for me it will always be demon child from children of the corn - my favourite boys name, which I've not heard used in recent years is Amos

Zachary, Zach, Zach, Finn/Fynn, Jude & Milo are all very common boys names around here, so I suspect it's a lot to do with where you live too

I know 3 Edens aged under 10, ALL girls so sorry that would be off a boy list for me.

Zachary, Roscoe and Finn/Finlay all sound good.
Jude is a bit meh.
Byron, yes very strong association with the poet, not sure if that is a good or bad thing!
Milo again, bit meh, bit too dog like.

My fav slightly mad boys name was Malachi (ma-la-ki to rhyme with sky) but Ds didn't look at all like that when he appeared! (And DH was wobbly about it).

And I know a dog called roscoe so that's what I associate it with now.. Sorry

Finn... Not that I'm biased or anything FWIW I haven't met another and he's now 13 months, and when I first told people I was going to call him Finnley when I was 18? Weeks I got 'what kind of names that' 'Sounds made up'

Roscoe = the stupid Hick sherriff in the Dukes of Hazard. I cannot conceive how you can like it.

Byron = intellectual poet who likes to shag his sister.

Zachary = slightly creative strong character with depth.

So really I have no idea what you like. Quenton is ok by me.

How do you pronounce Oren? Sounds like a nice origin but not sure what I think.
I watched the Dukes as a kid but don't remember anyone except Bo and Luke! That doesn't bother me anyway, all names have some association for people.

In a similar vain to Eden, but much more masculine, how about Oren? It's a biblical, Hebrew name, just like Zachary, and not at all overused... My Hebrew is rusty, but it's a type of tree, just can't remember which one

Thanks, this is great! I know it's all just a matter of opinion but it's good to canvas a range of random views as it will probably roughly reflect what my friends would think (and I don't want to spoil the surprise by telling them our ideas.)

noble yes I totally agree, Law, Ledger and Hawke all spring to mind for me too! But that wouldn't matter to DS's peers...assuming it is a he. We have a scan next week and I'm very tempted to find out.

Looks like Roscoe has the most positive response so far with no out-and-out dislikes. I like Oscar but it's so ubiquitous - apparently Roscoe was popular in 1920s America, so same era and similar sound but much more unusual. We actually found it from a Midlake albumn!

Aiden and Reuben are also nice names, as is Aaron. Hmmm! Choices, choices

Or maybe you want to avoid an A to Z or in this case, Z(achary) to A(idan).

I know/have met 5 Edens, all bar one are girls, it's a shortened version of my DDs name & weirdly as its not at all common around here, her best friends name too, the boy is American, where its more commonly used for boys, he was getting quite a bit of stick at the party we met him at, so I would avoid it for a boy

Maybe it's just where I'm from (I live in Glasgow, and not in a posh bit) but imo the other ones you mention sound awfully posh and round here any boy with those names would be teased mercilessly because there would be an assumption they were snobby and stuck-up. Just saying
