I'm 30+5 with DC2 and haven't found out the gender. DD1 is Imogen Elizabeth.
We have decided on.......
Samuel Raymond
or
Penelope Rae (Ray?)
DH's much missed late Grandad was Raymond so the middle name is definite.
Any thoughts? I'm renowned for changing my mind so although I say we have decided, I'm still open to ideas!
Obviously not 'xxx' as a name, but something you love just because it is a pretty name. Hope that makes sense but my brain isn't working properly.
Exactly. But I also don't think that it is a good idea to use a name just because of a lovely relative if you don't like the actual name.
Have you thought about giving two middle names? Penelope xxx Joyce could work.
Hmmm, you're right Marcheline it's a difficult balancing act! There doesn't seem to be much point in veering so far from the name that the link to the family member is lost.
Not really a fan of Penelope Joyce, much prefer Penelope Joy.
But we are possibly using Penelope for DD2 and she will have a family middle name, so I understand how important it can be to get the compromise between honoring the rlative and the sound of the name right.
Raya's really pretty, thanks.
DH has now said that he loves Joyce as a middle name. Penelope Joyce? It's quite pretty but is Joyce taking the old lady name trend a tad too far? It is the name of his lovely Nan, who we all adore, and would be beyond delighted if we used her name, but....Joyce?....

Yep! Or Raymonde actually. Both used. I liked Raymonde a lot but have German in-Laws and they'd pronounce the 'e'.

I had a try at fitting Raymond into a girls name for DD. The options I found were:
Ray
Rae
Raya
Raye
Raine
Raymonda
Ramona
Any use?

Penelope Joy is gorgeous.
Whoops! jkklpu and fellatio I love Joy instead of Joyce, great idea. Penelope Joy. Lovely.
I agree that Sam is a bit run of the mill but I really like it anyway. Good solid trustworthy name and not mega mega popular.
Hi all, thanks so much for taking the time to reply. *jkkp
Samuel Raymond is lovely.
Ray for a girl doesn't work imho but I do like Rae.
Please don't use Wendy - it is my middle name and I loathe it.
How about Joy instead of Joyce?

Sorry I meant to say I love Penelope Rae. Although I prefer the speliing Raye for a girl, but if it's a middle name it's neither here nor there.

Penelope is to DIE FOR. I LOVE it.
Samuel Raymond is ok. I love the name Sam but it's quite run of the mill. Why not just have Raymond?
I hate Joyce but I love Joy. Joy sounds elegant, romantic, timeless and sassy. Joyce sounds like the fat woman who works in the bakers.

I think Ray or maybe Raye is lovely and unusual for a girl

Joyce or Margaret for me.
Definitely Joyce. The rest have too many syllables.

I think Joyce or Laura go best with Penelope (might depend on the surname).
Grrr, DH has decided he doesn't like Ray for a middle name for a girl. Sigh. Other family names that we could use are -
Margaret
Wendy
Dorothy
Joyce
Laura
Not really a hotbed of great ideas...!
Don't really want to have a random middle name with no connections, would rather have none. Thoughts?

Lovely. I especially love Penelope.
I agree about Ray. I know it is closer to the boy's name, but since you are honouring a grandfather I think that is nice. And, as has been pointed out, there is 'ray of sunshine' etc. I'm not particularly keen on Mae (prefer May) which is probably colouring my view too.
Thanks all, and I agree about Ray over Rae for a girl. Thanks for the input!
