A name like Juno is so strong it is really not amenable to double barreling.

French names or German names like Anne Marie or Anna Maria for instance are fine double barreled but Juno is a stand aloner imo. Likewise Sophia unless it goes with Anna as in Anna Sophia, Anne Sophie, Marie Sophie, Maria Sophia -- a traditional Catholic style double barreling in other words.

And yes, 'D'you know Sophia?' is what it sounds like.

Use them as a first and middle name, both are lovely just not double barrelled.

I'm another person who can't stand hyphenated names.

I don't hate hyphenated names the way some people on MN do. Although not my personal taste, I have no problem with Tilly-Rose or Gracie-May or whatever. I do think Juno-Sofia sounds odd though. If you want to hyphenate the two names do need to flow. And sticking them together with no hyphen a la JunoSofia or TillyRose is just weird. Makes it look like a brand name or something.

Lovely names separately (especially Juno) but together horrendous! You must stop him. Junosophia sounds like some kind of weird phobia.

My dd has a hyphenated name but it is a short 3 letter name like Ava then a hyphen then Rose. Reads nicely but is already at 6mo shortened to just the first name unless we are singing to her...

I have a double barrelled name. I hate it.

Also, we recently named DD2 Sophia. Where we live there is already two other Sophias born the same week

I love her name but a bit miffed at the popularity. I hadnt known a single one before we name her.

Also the confusion with Sophie! My own mum has been having trouble getting her tongue around saying Sophia not Sophie. Admittedly my mum is weird.

Also if you are spelling it Sofia, thats a lifetime of correcting the spelling.

I pity poor Junosofia when she reaches reception & has to recognise & write her own name. She'll know which one it is on the coat pegs by being longer than anyone else's. She'll take 3 minutes longer to write it than anyone else. And that's before she even attempts to write her surname. Half the adults will spell it Junosophia, too. Which will confuse her no end.

The problem with Hypenated names is that most people end up using only the first part of the hypen (Emily-Rose becomes Emily, Joann-Mary becomes Joann, etc.).

Personally, I like Sofia but Juno makes me cringe.

I don't see double barrelled names as the cardinal sin they are often presented as on here at all. It's just a punctuation mark.

I have a hyphen (Rebecca-Jane) and haven't ever had any negative reaction (not to my face anyway ...)

I agree that Juno-Sophia is a no go, but only because it makes a sentence, not because it's double barrelled.

Juno with anything becomes 'do you know', just as Iona becomes 'I own a'.

Separately they are nice names.

They are fine separately. Not my personal style, but lovely names nonetheless.

Juno Sofia (i.e. first name then middle name) is a bit of a mouthful, but you don't need to say them fast together very often and I always think you can do pretty much what you want with middle names. They are vile mashed together. JunoSofia is just horrid, horrid, horrid.

Hyphenated names are not "horrendous and chavvy": it depends on the individual name choices.

Juno-Sofia (or any written variant) doesn't sound good, though.

It's Juno OR Sofia.

I'd vote for Sofia.

Oh dear please don't let him do this. Lovely as a first and middle name (but I'd put Sophia first).

My husband wanted to do the same with our DS. I got him to ask what his friends / family thought about it - he soon changed his mind!

He wanted Juno as a first name and vetoed all others. Fine with me, I like Juno. My DD wants Sofia - also fine with me, we'll have it as a middle name I thought.

But oh no. DH thinks it sounds like a 'cool cool name' all together. Junosofia / JunoSofia / Juno-Sofia/ Juno Sofia (I have no idea what the done thing is with middle names, I'm not a hillbilly ).

I do think it sounds nice to be fair, but am thinking...'really!!?'. Is it just horrendous and chavvy? Do I need to put my foot down?
