It's a girl! Just need to think of a name now ...

Just found out it's a girl today :)

Really struggled with names for DS. Finally agreed one when he was a day old! (Which we love) Trying to get one chose a bit earlier this time!

I'm keen on unusual names, and also Celtic names (DD will have Welsh & Scottish grandparents), although it doesn't have to be Celtic.

Here's a list of names I like but which aren't quite the one, or which I can't use for one reason or another. (For those of you with de ja vu, yes, we've been here before!)

Estelle
Otillie
Etta
Marianne
Arianwen
Ceridwen
Carys
Nia
Mari
Siân
Sioned
Aoife
Sinead
Siobhan
Cerys
Seren
Matilda
Esme
Anouk
Edie

Any ideas along these lines would be gratefully received! :)

My current favourite is Nina.

Also liking Angharad but DP won't let me even put it on our list!

My favourites on your list are Matilda and Aoife.

What about Seren?

Ooops!! Seen thats on there.

My mum absolutely loves Angharad! Lots of pressure already in that direction Grin (I'm not too keen though)

Nina's a lovely name, always makes me think of the wonderful Nina Simone. DS's name is a pretty unusual name though, I'm not sure they really "go" though IYSWIM. Also know an adult Nina, so not sure ...

Congratulations aufaniae thrilled for you Smile
Love your list especially Anouk.
How about Sorcha or Arwyn?

Report
aufaniae · 26/11/2012 16:07

GoldPlated I'll PM you DS's name :)

Mama thanks :) I'm thrilled. It was my secret preference. I didn't want to say, as I would have been totally happy with two lovely boys in the family, but I'm absolutely delighted we're going to have one of each Grin

Can't have Sorcha as a friend has already nabbed it. Arwyn's nice, I'll have a mull on it ...

MMy favourite is Anouk, which is gorgeous.
I also like Etta as a nn for Juliet
Mari is nice too.
Not keen on Esme, Matilda or Seren.

How about Gwendolen? I love this name, but it never made it to one of my dc!

love Marianne.

I love Marianne too, but for some reason I'm not sure about it as a first name, I may suggest it as her middle name if it goes with the first name.

It reminds me of a book from my childhood, "Marianne Dreams" does anyone remember that?

I love Anouk too, but DP is not convinced!

I hadn't thought of Etta as a NN. What else could it be used as a NN for I wonder?

Wonderful name OP thanks for PMing.

I like Etta on its own but would be a NN of Henrietta probably.

What about Ariadne or Aurelia?

Ah, google is our friend, as always! Found this list of baby names with etta in them

I LOVE baby name threads aufaniae particularly when they belong to other people on the April thread :) Can you pm me DS's name too?

What about:
Anwen
Arwen
Anya
Aurora
Isolde
Celyn
Eleri
Ellen/Elin
Erin
Esther
Miriam
Kirsten
Verity

From those listed above LOVE Eira (welsh for snow) and Nina.

We are expecting DD2 and looking for a nature/earthy name, we are probably going to go for Celeste and had been thinking of using the NN Etta for that. Well I had, DH definately not so sure!

You HAVE to call her Marianne. What a gorgeous name and 'Marianne Dreams' remains one of my all time favorite books. I have never met anyone else who has ever read it
Wish I had thought of Marianne for DD :(
But please don't ever give her roast chicken and peas for her birthday dinner...it might not end well :)
