Hello all. I need some honest advice about the name Audrey. I am thinking of it for a girl's name - partly as it is currently not very popular (at least not in the UK) but that is also why I am weary of using it! Honest opinions needed!

Many thanks!

It's on my list for DD2 smile

I know from looking at past threads there is some connection with Coronation St but I don't know what it is and whether that's still right <am not English so tend to miss these things>

I like it, although it isn't a name I'd personally choose (don't take that as a negative, it's just that it's quite different to my DDs names).

It has a vintage glamour to it - thinking of Audrey Hepburn and classic Hollywood. It sounds classy; 'golden', rich and full.

There's the character Audrey Roberts from Corrie, but what person o your child's generation will know that?

Perhaps not the funkiest name, but very pretty.

Coronation Street - still a current character with active story lines. DCs might not be familiar, but all the parents will be.

I love it!!! grin It's always been on my list but DH not so keen. I love Audra too

CelineMcBean Fri 23-Nov-12 09:47:52

Audra is much nicer. Audrey is an old lady's name but those come round again like Agnes.

I loved Audrey a few years ago but every time I mentioned it, people would say "Audrey Roberts"

NotInMyDay Fri 23-Nov-12 09:49:40

Oh I was just coming on to suggest Audra. I think it's beautiful.

I'm afraid Audrey is one of those names that are 'fine' but I don't understand why people like them.

kellyhowells82 Fri 23-Nov-12 09:58:52

Yes I hadn't thought of the Audrey Roberts association so thanks for pointing this out!

I like it. Yes, it is an old lady's name, but it was my grandmother's, so I have positive associations with it.

Also, it reminds me of Twin Peaks, Sherilyn Fenn's character was Audrey if I remember correctly, so I think of it being a bit glamourous as well.

StellaNova Fri 23-Nov-12 10:04:59

I love it. I know a five year old Audrey. I think Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Tautou and Audrey from Twin Peaks (so quirky glamour, basically). I know of the Corrie character but don't associate the name with her - I always think of that actress as Nadia Popov from Rentaghost anyway!

Great name!

CelineMcBean Fri 23-Nov-12 10:07:22

It was my grandmother's name too and she was an old lady when I knew her... wink

AndiMac Fri 23-Nov-12 10:08:50

The only Audrey I thought of was Audrey Hepburn. Lovely name, and it makes a change from all the names ending in "a" sounds that are popular right now. Says the woman with a DD with one of those names.

MolotovCocktail Fri 23-Nov-12 11:24:25

Not that this is really relevant, but I like Aubrey and Auden or boys ...

MolotovCocktail Fri 23-Nov-12 11:25:05

Not 'or' boys, but 'for' boys! blush

Auberginestripes Fri 23-Nov-12 11:25:51

A beautiful, beautiful classy name

sparkle12mar08 Fri 23-Nov-12 12:06:32

Lovely, but I prefer Audra.

Alisvolatpropiis Fri 23-Nov-12 12:07:33

Audrey Hepburn, closely followed by Audrey Tatou.

MrsBungleBear Fri 23-Nov-12 12:09:18

As others have said Audra is lovely. Sorry I just think Audrey is an old lady name and not a nice one at that.

RosannaBanana Fri 23-Nov-12 12:12:16

Coronation Street. But also Audrey Hepburn. Odd combo!

It's popular in the US IIRC. Possibly because they don't have Coronation Street

agendabender Fri 23-Nov-12 12:17:30

Shakespeare's ^As You Like It^: "Audrey, a simple thing, but mine own." Lovely! If you go with it I insist that you get a quote framed for her wall.

GaryBuseysTeeth Fri 23-Nov-12 12:17:34

If you've seen Liar Liar (with Jim Carey) he has an assistance called Audrey, and a few times he says it in an odd way (hard to describe in text), sort of 'Aurd-dray' but really drawn out.
Now I can't say Audrey without thinking of that film/saying it like that....which is really annoying as Audrey was on our list when I was pg.

However, it's an old film & not very popular....just thought I'd let you know!

It's a lovely name.

agendabender Fri 23-Nov-12 12:17:59

oh bums italics didn't work.
