My mum is trying to sell me on Sonny...it has sentimental meaning to both my mum and I though....what do you think? Do you know any?

Sophie Ellis Bextor has a Sonny - adds some cool. Not sure I could actually use it, though I don't dislike it!

Yes, I do, he's 6. Can't tell you names of his siblings as it will out me, but they are all wacky, if that helps.

I can't imagine it suiting a 25 year old.

I love it, I know people will come along and say it is not a proper name - he will never be a high court judge etc, I couldnt use it for my DS as I have a lisp and thonny just sound thilly.

If you choose Sonny, I vote for much singing of 'You Are My Sonnyshine'. Grin

I think it's a sweet nickname but not a proper name.

There is one is DD1 class. I like it but he looks like a mad professor which helps him carry off a more unusual name.

My friend has a Sonny, I'm not that keen.

I know a 50 year old man and a 6 year old boy - I love it because of them
I wouldn't agree it adds some cool, though

Sonny Jim?

I don't like it as a name for a child. My rescue lab was called Sonny, and I changed it straight away. Imagine the poor boy as a moody teenager with a name like that!

I like it but in Scotland you get a lot of "Come here Sonny Jim". There is a famous climber called Sonny Trotter, he's well fit so I like the name!

My friend named her ds Sonny, i wasnt sure about it at first but he's 8 now and i cant imagine him called anything else. My own DS is due in 4 weeks and ive had negative opinions to my name choices and suggestions as to what others like and dont like. Ive found myself endlessly searching name lists as though im trying to find a name everyone likes that isnt chavvy, boring, weird or too popular and at the end of the day deep down i just want to go with my original choice and so now ive stopped discussing it with anyone other than DH and were going to just announce it when he's arrived. Some thought my name choice was chavvy some opinions were that my choice is posh? During my pregnancy ive read papers and watched tv with characters of my name choice being both good, bad, rich and poor. So i think when the time comes you just have to go with your own favorite and your child will just become that name and he will be the person he's going to be.

Love it. Friend called her ds1 Sonny though we were all a little apprehensive as her daughter (firstborn) is called Misty. Her ds2 has a lovely name that is not thundercloud Grin

Please don't. Give it as a middle name if it's really important to you.

I know 3 or 4 Sonnys. I don't classify it as an unusual name anymore.

I know two Sonnys both gorgeous. One is 6 and one is 8.

I knew a Sonny. He attacked my ds when they were both only 4 years old. He stabbed him in the arm with a fork quite deliberately. But that asides the name is awful anyway. Utterly unimaginative and really quite common, in both senses of the word.
