Thoughts?
Eh?
But...but...but...she cant!
It's a girls name...surely?
I rather like it! I don't like Ariadne...it reminds me of spiders. Is there a children's book with a spider called Ariadne? Or am I just odd?
Phaedra is the name Kate Moss sings on Some Velvet Morning with Primal Scream <Kate Moss fan girl>. (Think it's a cover of a Nancy Sinatra song).
Yeah it's one of DP's favorite songs (the nancy Sinatra one)
That's why he's so taken with it,I reckon.
I think it's Anansi the spider. There was also a character in greek mythology called Arachne (I don't know what she did, something to do with weaving iirc, anyway that's where the name for spiders comes from).
I do see what you mean about Greek myths. And people have been calling babies Mary for years despite it meaning bitter.
The meaning or story wouldn't worry me if I loved the name, however Peaches Geldof is a very very bad connection. It is definitely a girls name! But then, she is quite z list so many people might not even know or care... At least if someone asked you could say she was a female character in a Greek myth, showing you are educated and Geldof is a wally. Will your LO arrive before hers? She's only about 16 weeks I think!
Phaedra is absolutely gorgeous. And low on the frill factor which is always a good thing.
No.
I'm not even pregnant yet
<weeps dramatically>
Stupid,stupid geldof kid.
I hope she changes her mind and everyone forgets...
Wait, Peaches Geldof is naming her son Phaedra????
Astala also sounds like a girl's name. Guess she's going for a theme.
Someone should tell her it's a girls name.
<plots>
I like the Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood album a lot. So I thought of the song straight away.
It isn't a name I'd choose though.

I really need to organise my list into boy and girl names...
I think you need to get pregnant first ;)
Oh please PLEASE use Io. I love it. I've loved it for years. It just earned me a 'you're insane' look from dh when I suggested it though. As did Anemone, which I really really wanted when I was pregnant. Any good to you?
You have a lot of my favourite names on there actually. Dd is an Audrey.
Can I also suggest Ingrid, Edgar and Clover?
Ooooh I like Ingrid and edgar!
And I do love Io...do you think Arlo and Io might be a bit much though...
Audrey is beautiful, I'd love to meet a little Audrey!
Isn't Phaedra what Peaches Geldof is going to call her next son? I could be wrong though, can you believe she is preggers again!
Yes,we've been through this already... ^ up there ^
And it's a boy
Just seen this thread now. One if the names we're thinking of is on your long list
but it's one of the boys names.
My daughter (8 months) is Phaedra and is named after the Lee Hazlewood song. I picked that name for a baby girl if I ever had one when I was about 20. Her middle names are Nova Romana. I'm also a massive Primal Scream fan so Phaedra was a perfect choice when they covered Some Velvet Morning.
I can't believe Peaches Geldof is calling a boy Phaedra. It's so obviously a girl's name, both in the song she claims to like and in Greek mythology. Oh well, good luck to her. I just hope I don't get asked if Phaedra is a boy's name from now on.
People I meet all seem to like the name and a lot of people are familiar with it so we haven't run into any problems.
hmmmm the Greek tragedy element wouldn't appeal.
