What girls name do you think goes with isla? We'd like a Scottish name. I like Flora and Sorcha DH not so sure.

I know an Isla with sisters Eva and Anna.

Most of the Scottish names I like sound quite similar to Isla! (Iona, Ailsa, Eilidh ...)

How about
Catriona
Elsbeth
Fenella
Robina
Sadie
Struana
Steurre

Thanks. Its for DC2 if everything goes ok. I like Ishbel, ailsa but it's only one letter away from isla! Also like Iona DD1 was very nearly Iona, I don't think we could have 2 islands though.

I actually really like Bridget too although that's Irish. It was my long gone godmothers name, she was great fun & I have fond memories of her, so that will go on the list.

What's the thoughts on Flora, is it too similar to Isla, can we get past the margarine issues??

Thanks for the help so far.

Eilidh pronounced The same sound as Hayley.

Love Flora and know several children not bothered by the margarine issue .Alternatively what about Lorna or Fiona

I like Flora - it's lovely - but I wonder whether you might also like Florence and Fiona. I don't think you can go far wrong with Flora though!

I don't think you can have an Isla and an Iona or an Ishbel - they're too similar to be sisters' names. As for Scottish names, I'm not aware of many but do you like Ailie/Eilidh, Elspeth, Finella, Fionnuala, Lilias, Mairead (an acquaintance of mine's name - she pronounces it to rhyme with 'parade' and I've always thought it's lovely), Mari, Shona, Sorcha or Una?

Showmethemhappyfeet Sun 12-Feb-12 20:12:25

I think Avery goes lovely with Isla... (I'm a bit obsessed with the name Avery! Fingers crossed hypothetical DC2 is a girl!)

laurissarawson Sun 12-Feb-12 20:18:50

i like India and Isla - kind of similar but not to much. good luck with finding the right name smile

My oldest is also Isla (so great taste in names!)

I wanted to call DD2 either Isobel or Erin (Like you, would have loved Iona but had the same thought that two island names was overkill!!)

In the end my DH got to choose and she ended up being Charlotte Erin

Eilidh

Mairi

Scathac Mon 13-Feb-12 19:58:42

Got to be Kirsty ...........
or Flora, Shona, Fiona, Ishbel, Una, Minnie (I had an Aunt Minnie - no idea what it stood for!!), Iona, Catriona, Mairi, Morag, Mirren, Morven, Heather ... I am sure there are loads more!

leftmymistletoeatthedoor Mon 13-Feb-12 21:19:49

Mairead
Elspeth (elsie)
Ailish - goes well with isla and isn't as similar as ailsa is?
Morven
Mirren

Personally, I'd go for ailish.

leftmymistletoeatthedoor Mon 13-Feb-12 21:21:46

Oh and Mairead in an Irish pronunciation is to rhyme with parade but the Scots pronunciation is more like 'my-redt' which imho isn't quite as nice.

tassisssss Mon 13-Feb-12 22:14:05

Oooh yes, Kirsty. Dd1 was vv nearly Kirsty!

tildaandarchiesmummy Mon 13-Feb-12 23:16:44

Isla and Iona
Isla and Iris
Isla and Harriet
Isla and Alice

My favourite is Isla and Iona
