DD2 due in 2 weeks and we really can't agree on a name. I love Cleo, but DH is not at all keen - thinks the car connection will be a problem. He's suggested Lana today but it does nothing for me. Any thoughts?

I prefer Lana to Cleo

What about Lara?

Both gorgeous names but I prefer Cleo

Love Larissa with Lara for short. Lana is quite nice too. Cleo is OK but a bit nicknamey and not sure of Cleopatra for full name! How about Cassandra (Cassie)?

I know an Ilana, nn Lana

Prefer Cleo, but maybe just because of associations.

Love the suggestion of Lara.

I really liked Lana until husband ruined it by pointing out what it spelled backwards. sad

I like Lana but I don't like Cleo because it reminds me of the car Clio. I also love Layla/Laila which is similar to Lana.

BeeWi please pass on my thanks to your husband, thats done the job in moving hubby away from Lana, trouble is he still doesn't like Cleo. Does it really matter if there is a car connection? Quite like Lara so thanks ruby slippers!

I like Cleo.

Because the car is Clio-different!

Well to me, anyway!

I like Cleo (Cleopatra), Lana reminds me of wool.

I fear Lana might be too tied to 2012 with the popularity of Lana del Rey. That said, it isn't a particularly trendy sounding name so I might just be being a little picky. I prefer Lara to Lana (and, indeed, Clara to Lara). You might also like Alana.

I like Cleo. This owner of this name-related web site calls her daughter Clio: http://appellationmountain.net/2008/10/10/site-news-all-about-clio/ It's a nickname for Claire Caroline. Perhaps, as a compromise, you could give your daughter a more conventional birth name and call her by Cleo?

They're both nice names.

Prefer Lana to Lara.

Leia?
Clara?

2cats2many Thu 09-Feb-12 17:59:48

Sorry, but Cleo is a cat's name. Fact.

I'm not v. keen on Lana either.

fluffygal Thu 09-Feb-12 18:17:32

My daughter is Lana and always get compliments, only met one other Lana but yes it could get popular because of Lana del Ray.

Fayrazzled Thu 09-Feb-12 18:40:10

Both sound like club singers.

freerangeeggs Thu 09-Feb-12 19:35:32

Lana is 'anal' spelled backwards.

I like Cleo

Lana is pretty good - quite classic, am thinking Lana Turner. Love Cleo - am thinking of it for our immenent arrival if a girl (although my dh isn't crazy about it either.)

As for the car thing: a) I've established that there is one negative association for pretty much every name out there.
b) the baby will become so associated with the name and vice versa that nobody will even think about the car as she grows up.

PopoonezerScrooge Thu 09-Feb-12 21:55:48

I prefer Lana - but that maybe because Cleo has become a very chavvy name in these parts sad. There are a few little Cleos at DS2's primary school and all of them are "oi, ger ere u little shit Cleo"s - I liked the name quite a lot before that smile.
