Anton for a boy
Anais for a girl

yay or nay?

open to suggestions as long as they start by "A"

EdithWeston Thu 03-Nov-11 21:48:47

I love both of them!

Some more "A" names:

Alexander, Aidan, Aloyisius, Angus

Athena, Artemis, Ariadne, Alexandra, Araminta, Allegra, Alethea

Not for me - Anton is too Strictly and Anais is an 80s perfume.

All of Edith's suggestions are better esp Angus and Allegra.

MerryMarigold Thu 03-Nov-11 21:54:47

Like Anton, not really Anais. Are they twins?!!

Anna

Alan
Albert

Anton - du Beke. I like Ant(h)ony though.

Anais very pretty, but be prepared for lots of people asking about pronounciation and spelling.

Not fond of either but Anais is better than Anton.

Adam / Andrew / Asher / Ashley /

Ariadne / Anna / Adele / Adella / Alice /

Anais is lovely, but I'm not a fan of Anton I'm afraid.

Antoinette, Asher

Thank you

so you think Anais will be difficult to pronounce/spell for people?
i would like to avoid this as it is already the problem for DS2

i also like Arlo for a boy but DP is not so keen..

Montsti Fri 04-Nov-11 08:12:22

Don't like either, I'm afraid..Arabella, Amelie?

3isamagicnumber Fri 04-Nov-11 08:46:44

Not a fan of wither Im afraid - names beginning with 'A' I do like though include Antony, Aidan, Anna and Anya.

Montsti Fri 04-Nov-11 08:55:57

Anya and Anna are nice not so keen on your boy's choices though.

Sorry I thought I was talking to Tostaky!

Don't like Anton at all but Anais is very pretty. I do think that people will mis-pronounce it though (presumably you will be pronouncing it An-i-isse)

Aiden
Ashton

Yes, I am not sure of pronounciation of Anais. Is it Ann-I-ees? Or Annay?

peacypops Sat 05-Nov-11 10:08:08

MerryMarigold it's the first one. But I think a lot of people would assume 'Annay' (that's how most people used to pronounce the name of the perfume!

AnaisB Sat 05-Nov-11 10:43:37

i like them [biased]

Towndon Sat 05-Nov-11 10:51:18

I've heard it pronounced An-AY-is.

winkle2 Sat 05-Nov-11 11:06:12

Anaia?

Not keen on either. Love Ava though.

AwayinaKayzr Mon 19-Dec-11 08:43:44

Don't like either of them.

guinealady Mon 19-Dec-11 10:00:14

I do quite like Anais - I wouldn't choose it as my name starts with an A too, but it is very pretty. I've heard of Ana being used as a nn.
