Antenatal tests

Waiting For Results - CVS, Amnio etc? An antenatal test support thread

I wondered if anyone would find it useful to hand-hold / generally witter on while waiting for results? Apologies if there is such a thread, I couldn't find one.

I can't really share my current situation with many people in RL and I'd really appreciate talking to anyone going through something similar.

This is my second pg, DS is 3yo. I had a CVS yesterday after getting a combined risk result of 1:38 last week. I know that it's not a huge risk and that this equates to a 95%-ish chance that everything is normal but DH and I felt that we needed to know.

the procedure itself was OK, quite uncomfortable but fairly swift but blardy hell I'm aching today. Luckily DH has taken DS out today and I'm under a blanket with MN, Radio 4 and strawberry milkshake.

First set of results not due until Weds / Thurs. I'm veering between positivity and gloom. Every twinge is making me terrified that I'm in the 1% that will miscarry and that I've jeopardised a probably healthy pregnancy because I had a selfish need for knowledge.. :(

I've had 4 mc and with DD2 I had a CVS (1:22) and all was fine. I did have some aching afterwards but nothing extreme. I was told it was normal and just relax (easier said than done). With every one of my mc's I was in no doubt what was happening so I think I had something to compare it to.
I know it doesn't help as each experience is different, but don't be too gloomy if you're just getting the odd twinge.
Good luck with everything whatever happens.x

Sorry to hear about your mc's yeahyeah, thank you for sharing your experience.

All still OK here, touch wood. Much less sore now and mildly less gloomy. Am just busy distracting myself for a few days until the first set of results are in.

Glad everything is hanging on in there. I was told the first 24hours is critical and if you get through that you can almost be sure the procedure was OK (sorry REALLY should have remembered that before!). As I say, good luck (it was the longest wait of my life so I feel for you.x)

The consultant called today; they haven't been able to get a result from my sample.

I have to wait another 7-10 days for the full culture (?) to see if they can get anything from that and if not I'll have to consider an amnio.

AAaarrgh!

Hello shortwave, I hope all was well with your tests. How awful having to wait so long for the results.

I am having an amnio on Thursday and just waiting for the test is bad enough, I am dreading waiting for the results and of course the possibility that the results might not come back on Friday at all.
