Yanbu, I think once you start giving into that it is the end of family life, in the sense that it only takes two people to want to watch differnt things on tv to get the family scatterd all over the house in differnt bedrooms.

I am totally opposed to Tv in Dcs bedrooms for the above reason but also because I think that up to a certain age TV has to be "filterd" for DCs. I do not mean by that that everything needs censoring, but I would rather watch TV with my Dcs sometimes, to be able to discuss some of the issues discussed/shown in programms ( even in programms direcly aimed at children sometimes) that not knowing what they are watching.

I am very old fashion maybe but no amount of my DCs asking for a tV in their room would make me change my mind.

YANBU. We don't do TV in bedrooms - there is one set in the living room that everyone shares. DD1 is 11 and I would say very few of her friends have TV in bedrooms so don't fall for the 'all my friends' line, IME it is usually not true.

YANBU - I do agree with you that you are the adult and should be there supervising the TV programmes ...

Also, I read somewhere that one of the things to cure insomnia was to take the TV out of the bedroom !!

also when they are 18 you need an incentive to get them to leave hom

so you can say 'well you can have a tV in your room wheh you have your own place'

All my DC's friends do have TVs in their bedrooms, I know this for a fact, but I absolutely refuse.
YANBU- if you don't like it don't get swayed.

Somehow , hen I tried that argument with my mum, the standard 'well, if they all jumped into the fire, would you?' counter argument always used to be wheeled out!

My eldest did for a while (when she was little) it was a nightmare, she wouldn't sleep, would insist on watching unsuitable c*ap etc. When we moved house it went and has never been replaced. It is so hard to get them to do other things without them going upstairs after school and not coming down again!

Also - when they are teenagers, they will spend almost all their time in their room anyway, at leaset if they have to come down to watch tv, you will see them once or twice a day!

(My dc friends "all have them" too, my line for this is "so?" my dc have now given up on that line for the time being although I am sure they will try it again sometime )

LOL Nagpie, our mums had the same view on this sort of argument . "If everybody threw themself in the Rhone would you do it?" was her line.
